In the days before phones and tablets we used to talk to our DCs and involve them in what we were doing

My mum used to stick me in front of the tv, that was 30 years ago before tablets and phones.

When I was little TV didn't start until about 4pm. We managed.

I have 3 teenagers that range from 14 -18, none of them had screen time in a morning growing up. Woe betide anyone telling them not to reach for their phones whilst their eyes are still shut in a morning and spending a good hour on it before even looking up!

It's fine, my 5 year old was watching something about magnetic forces at 6.30 yesterday morning, my 3 year old also knows a bit of Spanish thanks to Dora....

I dont limit screen time as such but there is no time for cartoons when I have work. The kids do wake after me though. My 6yo always asks to play on his tablet on my days off in the week and he has to be completely ready apart from shoes and coat - but thats only because he will not get ready in time if he plays first!

I am very relaxed with what we do at home in our spare time.

@Heratnumber7 people also managed with a horse and cart and no electricity Wink

I do the same with my 4yo. Last night the charger broke so she didn’t have it when she woke up this morning, honestly I was expecting a tantrum/meltdown but she whined a bit then went off to play in her room. Eased my fear she was getting addicted as she does ask every day. I think it’s fine, and once it’s up and running I’ll let her have it again, cbeebies is great! She’s not watching the crap I did as a kid! Plus I’m on my own and pregnant so need my sleep to keep me sane.

Not going to be popular idea but - why don't you get up and start the day? It's not that early (DS used to wake at 4:30 every bloody morning when he was little).

EyUpOurKid · 11/11/2018 10:03

I do it with my 2yo, I bought a kids kindle specifically so I'd be able to scroll on my phone while I wake up and he could watch cbeebies. I have to listen to baby fucking Jake and Rara the noisy lion though so I'm not sure I'm the real winner.

daisypond · 11/11/2018 10:03

I think after she has got up, dressed, etc, and preferably later in the day. I think the problem is that it's first thing after she's woken up. Maybe save it for a treat for weekend mornings? I think 6.30 is a more than reasonable time to get up for an adult. I also think an actual TV, decent sized screen, makes a difference.

Alexandra2018 · 11/11/2018 10:06

Soon enough she won't wake so early and you'll be fine my dd would go down and turn the tv on now I can't get her out of bed

DeadGood · 11/11/2018 10:09

Children have been sitting in front of the TV watching cartoons for decades.

FekkoThePenguin · 11/11/2018 10:10

Didn't have early morning telly when I was little. Apart from swap shop on a Saturday.

PoesyCherish · 11/11/2018 10:14

Sounds fine to me. It's not like you're ignoring her for the rest of the day.

Babybearsporij · 11/11/2018 10:20

I get up with my DC, we have breakfast in pyjamas, then get dressed & teeth brushed etc. Then they watch TV while I get ready. They're not too bad at switching it off for school. You've got to do what you've got to do!

puppymouse · 11/11/2018 10:20

DD 5 watches TV for an hour while she gets dressed and I get ready. It gets turned off if she doesn't co-operate. She's doing well at school and does plenty of other things.

Allthewaves · 11/11/2018 10:35

I think it's fine, mine used to get up from 5am onwards so would be watching tv, DVD etc as I couldn't function until nearer 7am
