Problem with dentist

Made appointment with my dentist between checkups as I noticed several of my front teeth had vertical minor cracks and had read there is a coating I could have painted on them.
Sat in the chair explained the cracks and it felt as if the enamel was coming off one as I could feel it with my tongue, before I could say anything else he had started to drill away the cutting edge of a front top tooth, I put my hand up and he stopped drilling, I tried further to explain my problem and very dismissively he said if the enamel chips off I could have crowns.
I am now left with a front tooth shorter than its partner and even worse
stains from coffee etc. are getting underneath and I now look as if I have a bad front tooth.
The practise manager is also the receptionist, so don't know who to complain to, and I don't feel confident to go back to the same dentist .and there aren't any other dentists taking on new patients in my area.
Sorry its such a long post but wonder if anyone else as had problems and what they had done.

I’m sorry you’ve had this experience op. Sounds like a dentist who dismissed your concerns
From what you’ve said it sounds like he was smoothing the tip of your front teeth but if they’re different sizes that’s not great
So going forward you will need to complain- they legally must have a complaints procedure It shouldn’t matter that the receptionist is the manager. It’s her job to deal with patient complaints and suggestions
You need to email ( as it’s proof). Rather than a verbal complaint

Other than that you might have to look further afield for another dentist to give you a second opinion
( if was me I would want a second opinion )
Good luck

Sounds like a breakdown in communication. He thought you didn’t like the roughness, so smoothed it for you, but you wanted it building up not smoothing off?
Complain- bit harsh. Go back and say you want it building up with composite. Be aware this may not hold though as dental glue, although strong, can’t always withstand chewing forces if you have a strong bite.
You could to seek a second opinion or look round for another dentist. I think we need to move away from complaining about everything- it isn’t a good culture to live in.

I've never heard of a coating for the front teeth? Are you thinking about fissure sealants for molars?

You've not been clear in your post about the problem; yes you say cracks but were they sharp/ sensitive or was it cosmetic?

Agree with PP to who said that it sounds like he has just smoothed them off for you which has caused them to be more sensitive.
I don't think this warrants a change of dentist or formal complaint. Just book an appointment for sensitivity after treatment then explain to him exactly what is bothering you now. He's probably carried out the least invasive/ costly option first. If you're still not satisfied then they can look at what options you have for future treatments- just book in now and don't wait til your next check up.

Don't worry about the receptionist being the practice manager- they'll see this all the time.

Hope you get sorted soon x
