So want to hear a funny story?

Dp passed his driving test on Tuesday, after 7 years together he can finally share the driving!! Fantastic Grin

We went out for dinner tonight to celebrate with friends, no alcohol (obvs - it's my turn to not be the sober one!) and he walked out of the resturant, slipped on a wet mat in the entrance and has broken his leg in 2 places! Oh and his ankle is completely dislocated!

Oh the joys, I can't even blame him, the mat was stupidly slippy I am surprised he is the first one to go down.

Been kicked out of the room by the Dr who is resetting the ankle as he thought I was a faint risk.

Please make me laugh! I know I'm nbu but this is the most active section! I am just so so worried, he cried at the hospital, I hate seeing him so scared!

Bless your high DH- he deserves some fun. Interview him on your mobile while he is off his face 😂

Talkingfrog · 11/11/2018 01:49

I am relived I didn't go out for a meal tonight now.

I managed to survive two and a half hours on ice skates (haven't used skates for over 25 years) with my 7 year old. (plus 2 adults and 12 other kids). I fell about 5 times, one so spectacularly I didn't even have chance to put my hands out. I hit my knee hard, but didn't break anything. I can only imagine how I would have felt if I had then slipped on a wet mat.
We go to Disneyland Paris in two weeks. At the point of my spectacular fall, I did wonder if agreeing to go ice skating was a good idea.
I hope he isn't in too much pain, but don't think he will be driving for a while.

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 11/11/2018 01:50

Hahaha he is in good spirits, he has this weird green inhaler thing with black balls in which is the pain relief. He keeps saying 'babe, babe, you need to try this stuff it's amazing!'

Tbh it's a relief to have him laughing for a minute. He's gone to xray so I am in the bay waiting for him to come back. They have said he can keep the inhaler thing for a while but he doesn't believe them, as he was wheeled away. He flashed me the inhaler tucked inside his t-shirt and I could hear him giggling down the hall

Thank you so much for all keeping me company tonight, I really appreciate it and Dp says thank you for the well wishes, I read him the thread and he was really chuffed.

You guys are great Flowers

The irony is, if it had been someone a bit drunk, they may have landed better and not done any damage!

Your poor DH. Hope you get some sleep. And they don't take that inhaler away from him!

GlitteryFluff · 11/11/2018 04:15

Fingers crossed for a smooth op and recovery for him Thanks.

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 11/11/2018 04:35

Thank you guys, I am trying to sleep but not being successful, no idea what time he is going in to surgery in the morning so have given him strict instructions to call Me as soon as he sees the Dr and the ward staff have my number. Luckily I live about 5 minutes from the hospital so can get there early.

Packed a bag for him for Tomorrow so at least feel like I'm doing something useful.

Well it's sort of funny but also a bit hair raising! Had my first baby today and had an unexpectedly speedy Gonzales 6 hour labour where:

  1. home birth midwife missed it - went from 5 mins to 3 to 2 'oh god Im pushing I'm pushing' in very little time and decided HOSPITAL NOW CALL TAXI
  2. the miserable taxi driver refusing to turn off the match in the car Shock with me hanging over back seat contracting, ooooo-ing, pushing for the 5 minute drive that felt like it went on FOREVER
  3. arriving at hospital a and e where the first thing I said to the lovely young redheaded male paramedic who greeted us was I CAN FEEL THE HEAD, then
  4. had a discussion in front of a startled looking nurse and room full of a and e patients about whether I could walk (not really) and had another pushy contraction hanging off DH again in front of everyone and
  5. then was whisked off kneeling up on a wheelchair up to the maternity unit - all I could take in was the wheels/green lino.

The result is sleeping next to me right now, 7lbs 5ounces of lovely and very speedy baby.

Hope your DH gets the good drugs op and the break isn't too bad - rotten thing to happen. Thanks

Llioed · 11/11/2018 06:28

That sounds awful! Hope both you and your DP are ok?

When our daughter was 5 months old my DH (fiancé at the time) cycled to work on a Monday morning and he slipped on black ice. I got a call from him at 8am saying he was at the hospital and that the Drs thought he had broken his ankle. Nope, he had an X-ray and it turned out he broke both his tibia and fibula, and his ankle was facing the wrong way to his knee Shock

He had an operation that same day (in the afternoon) and was discharged Thursday evening. He loved the gas and air and the morphine.

I just wanted to let you know the recovery and looking after your DP will be exhausting but you will get through it. Just take it a day at a time, sometimes even an hour at a time. I had both my DH and a 5 month old to look after but we got through it. Eventually... Grin

Most importantly you also need to look after yourself too. I hope you managed to get some sleep/rest Flowers

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 11/11/2018 07:43

pandarific congratulations on your new arrival!! Flowers enjoy every minute and hey, you have a great story to tell them when they are older!

Llioed ouch! That does not sound good at all! I hope he recovered OK in the end! I know it is going to be hard, but we don't have dc and we do luckily have lots of friends and family who live nearby who help if needed.

Ah he is absolutely fine now (our daughter is 3.5 years old now) this happened three years ago. He likes to boast about having a titanium rod down the inside of his tibia Hmm haha! The only thing he can’t do is kneel on that knee (as they had to enter his tibia via the knee) shudders

Wishing your DP a speedy recovery Smile
