Never thought the day would come when I find myself in complete agreement with Nicholas Soames but here it is. That's his comment on Trump's toddlerish behaviour in France. He cancelled his visit to the US WW1 memorial today. My contempt knows no bounds.

On the plus side, if you can call it that, his lack of engagement with the armistice memorials may go down pretty badly with some of his supporters - the nationalist, pro-military bunch. It may lose him some friends.

Roussette · 11/11/2018 08:00

Very true Hassled

longwayoff · 11/11/2018 08:20

Hope you're right hassled, unfortunately his supporters are newsblind. God help America.

It’s just a shame this hadn’t happened before the mid-terms; it might have given some of his supporters, especially the veterans, pause for thought.

TheHulksPurplePanties · 11/11/2018 10:33

This is happening because of the mid-terms. He's throwing his toys out his pram because the GOP lost the House.

Roussette · 11/11/2018 13:30

I agree. Look at that rare news conference he held. I was in shock. He was blustering, shouting, insulting, being rude, lying..... he tries to make out it's been a win for GOP, but he knows come 2 January, when Dems take control of the House, it's all going to change drastically for him. Those pesky checks and balances might be coming into play

Spudlet · 11/11/2018 13:35

He turns my stomach. I can't bear to look at him or hear his whining voice. Just - eurgh.

The one plus side is that at least his stand-in (I believe he sent John Kelly) would have known how to behave appropriately. I doubt Trump would have been capable. He'd have probably made a speech in which he confused the Baltics and the Balkans, then had a photo taken with a massive pumpkin grin and two tiny thumbs up.

As2162 · 11/11/2018 13:35

People say god help America, but think how bad the other offering must be for him to have gotten power.

Spudlet · 11/11/2018 13:37

He lost the popular vote. This was the result of a skewed electoral system, not the clear cut will of the American population.

longwayoff · 11/11/2018 13:49

As2162. I'm sure you know that isn't true. Just reminding you that we're not all glued to Fox News.

JT knows how to butter his bread, but he is a useless leader.
Trump causes too much of a fuss, probably safer for everyone if he’s not there.

justforthisnow · 11/11/2018 14:56

I object to any comparison of Trump to a cunt. He entirely lacks the depth and the warmth for such an entity (I am on a mission to reclaim that word in its originality).

FekkoThePenguin · 11/11/2018 14:57

Maybe he's sick?

longwayoff · 11/11/2018 15:45

Fair point, justforthis. Fekko, his behaviour indicates he might benefit from medical attention. Here's hoping.

I'm furious all over again watching c4 news to discover Trump and Putin were busy together and missed the 11am silence. Rolled up later. May as well have just unzipped and pissed all over everyone. Absolute scum.

FekkoThePenguin · 11/11/2018 19:14

How can his supporters excuse this?

Spudlet · 11/11/2018 19:38

Oh, you can bet your life Fox news won't share that snippet, so they'll probably never know. If they hear it anywhere else, it will be called fake news. Trump will just lie about it, of course, if it is raised.

lljkk · 11/11/2018 19:43

How do his supporters excuse everything he does? The blatent self-enrichment in the tax code revisions, the emoluments, the kakistocracy, nepotism, physical clumsiness, unabashed self-importance, racial stereotyping, lack of coherent speech, the LIES. The constant lying. The blatent disregard for the US constitution and any separation of powers. The many wives, including chain migration for wife #3's family. Locking children in cages. Cheating US govt out of tax revenue (collusion with his siblings, including the one who is a judge). Sleeping around heavily with other women while youngest son was still a newborn (including an afternoon shag with a porn star).

He hasn't visited American troops stationed abroad. That last complaint has special traction this weekend. Appointing incompetents to run the Veterans Administration (and every other govt dept).

The mocking the reporter with CP when he was still campaigning... how did he ever recover politically from that ?

I despair of (fellow) Americans.

FekkoThePenguin · 11/11/2018 20:02

I just don't get how the can excuse him though. I mean everyone has a snapping point don't they?

Or are they just so morally bankrupt they would excuse him breaking into their house, sexually abusing family dog, ceapping on the living room rug and stealing the silver?

"Ohhhhhh, ya know, it's na-wt naaice, but it's just his waaaaayyyyyy"

Spudlet · 11/11/2018 20:34

I know what you mean. I just don't think they care. About any of it. Children in cages, toddlers representing themselves in court, the lies, the cheating - any of it.

It's mind boggling.

Urbanbeetler · 11/11/2018 20:39

It doesn’t quite fit in with his projected image of a man who wouldn’t hesitate to run into a school under attack by a gunman - which he personally put forward in his scathing attack on the unarmed guard at the school who didn’t do that. If a bit of rain defeated him, a rogue gunman certainly would.

FekkoThePenguin · 11/11/2018 21:59

Well he did dodge the draft didn't he? And I'm not sure what the dinner table political discussions were like growing up in the Drumpf household. Maybe it was 'every man for himself and bugger everyone else."
