I do love he newborn stage but I think my favourite is 4. Just before they start school. Tantrums have stopped but still cute before they start the back chat and attitude.
What’s your perfect age?

I’ve got a 6 and an 8 year old and I was just saying to a friend how much I’m enjoying it. We listen to good music (currently Hamilton on constantly), they are so full of interesting conversations and questions. Fewer illness and injury, they can do the things we like (walks, kayaks, biking), have their own interests, they are starting to be more independent (can pop into a shop by themselves etc) but still cuddle up to me for a story, write me letters saying “I love you mummy”, tell me I’m beautiful and funny and are just the best!

With my own dd, I loved ages 2 and three best, despite the tantrums, but with my dgd I've enjoyed her more since she turned four.

Whichever age DD is 😍😀

@Dickybow321
2 of mine never had a tantrum, then I had one who barely stops having a tantrum, its exhausting.
Loved age 4, old enough to have good fun with and they aren't at school.

Lolly86 · 12/11/2018 04:30

My DD(5) has never tantrummed. I've been very lucky because every stage with her has been amazing in it's own way so far. Smile

Johnnycomelately1 · 12/11/2018 05:07

The older they get the more I enjoy them. However, I am pretty sure that dd is going to be a nightmare teenager. Fortunately she says she wants to go to boarding school ( thanks JK) Grin.

Not the newborn/small baby stage. That was hell.

DD is 4, rising 5, and putting aside the attitude, tiredness-related fits of anger and friendship dramas, I love this age. She's so excited by new things, so keen to learn, and so loving. And her little warm hand on my arm (even when grubby) melts my cold dead heart.

Unicyclethief · 12/11/2018 05:26

Although I love babies, and toddlers, and up to about 12, then they are twats for a few years. Then they are really really fab because you see the people they have become and your heart actually bursts. Brilliant.

TwiceAsNice22 · 12/11/2018 05:35

My twins were tantrum free at 2, but making up for it now they are 4 😬

I really liked age 3, it was a lot easier at that age and they were more independent. The newborn stage was hard and is such a blur, I barely remember it.

I do think parenting gets better and better (tantrums and all). It’s fun seeing them grow and learn.

Tiddler7 · 12/11/2018 05:39

My DS14 never had a tantrum. He could ne naughty at times, but no tantrums. His DS5 is making up for both of them...

BusySittingDown · 12/11/2018 05:48

DD1 never had a tantrum. She was HILARIOUS as a two year old, she was so witty and kind. She used to say and do daft things to make us laugh. She makes up for her non tantrums though now she's 11.

DD2 was Queen of Tantrums.

Anyway, my favourite age? I can't say - I always feel like they get better! I often find myself thinking, "oh, I don't want them to grow, they're so lovely!" But then the next stage is just as lovely or lovelier than the last. Smile

Aw I’ve loved reading the answers to this and knowing it won’t always be this hard. I have a 3 year old and nearly 2 year old and some days I struggle to see the light lol

Didimum · 28/09/2023 17:50

Completely depends on the child. My twin 1 was a nightmare newborn, twin 2 a dream newborn. Twin 1 a dream 1-3yr old, twin 2 a nightmare 1-2yr old. Then twin 1 nightmare from 3-5 and twin 2 lovely. They will all reach their exasperating and wonderful phases at different ages.

CaptainJackSparrow85 · 28/09/2023 17:50

My oldest is 4 and I love it. No more nappies but still so cute and really funny.

I don’t love the early toddler stage - from about 12-20 months. Very little language, no reasoning whatsoever, zero hazard perception, but able to walk and grab things.
