I have horrific tooth ache, the whole side of my face is in pain. I have had about 3 glasses of wine this evening last one at about 11ish. I’ve taken ibuprofen at midnight it’s not helped a jot.
I have prescription strength co codamol left over from a back problem. Can I take it seeing as I’ve been drinking? I know the two drugs together are ok but the alcohol worries me.
I can’t sleep, I want to rip my face off.

I don't know about the safety of cocodamol mixed with alcohol, sorry but wanted to send some moral support your way as that sounds awful! Could you call the NHS helpline?

PollardOrPolluck · 10/11/2018 01:41

I am in no way a medical professional so definitely go to 111 for advice. However if they come back with yes and you're still nervous know that I did this as a student (so steaming drunk, not just a couple of glasses of wine) for a headache which was caused by being hit on the head that night (so add concussion) and I was absolutely fine.

Still go to 111 but I know that some people still have anxiety around these things.

Hidingtonothing · 10/11/2018 01:41

I’m not sure about mixing the two either OP sorry but, if there’s anyone who could take you to a 24hr supermarket, Orajel should help. The super strength one you have to buy over the counter is better but they should have the normal one on the shelf with the bonjela and similar.

Greensleeves · 10/11/2018 01:42

I have done this before and survived. It's definitely not recommended though! I'm not sure what the possible damage is.

Sorry you're in agony :( I know it might sound daft but have you tried applying clove oil directly to the source of the pain? It's horrific for about 30 seconds but it does actually numb the nerve weirdly effectively.

PinotAndPlaydough · 10/11/2018 01:43

Husband can’t drive and he has work in the morning anyway. I feel really silly calling 111 for toothache Blush

Lots of clove oil but the pain is inside of that makes sense and in the jaw.

Don't feel silly, its the non-emergency number, this is exactly what its for!

lljkk · 10/11/2018 04:26

clove oil isn't a pain killer, it's actually a tissue damaging agent.
I hope somehow you got some sleep & will get treatment today. See a pharmacist if naught else.

BunsOfAnarchy · 10/11/2018 04:34

U need whisky in ur mouth held over the specific tooth.
U also need to get to an emergency dentist! We have a 24hr one near us. It was a lifesaver for dh last week!

vampirethriller · 10/11/2018 07:20

111 can get you an emergency dental appointment, they've done it for me before!

OneStepSideways · 10/11/2018 07:31

Don't mix opiates like codeine with alcohol, they can suppress your breathing and make you very drowsy, as well as giving you the headache from hell.

TeddybearBaby · 10/11/2018 07:50

How are you doing? I hope you’ve got an appointment / are feeling better?!

I broke a bone and had co-codemol. Took it when I had a horrific tooth ache and the dentist told me it didn’t work well for that type of pain and to use nurofen and paracetamol instead. It was much more effective.

TeddybearBaby · 10/11/2018 07:52

Ibuprofen every 8 hours and paracetamol every 4 hours I think it was bit check the packets.

ThanosSavedMe · 10/11/2018 07:53

Co-codamol and alcohol do not mix. Shouldn’t ever be taken at the same time as pp said

PinotAndPlaydough · 10/11/2018 09:07

Finally managed to get to sleep at about 3am and have an emergency dentist today. I am currently eduring the joys of 4hrs sleep, tooth ache and my daughters violin lesson Hmm
