To even consider it?

So I have 3 DC my DS 12 and DD 9 don't believe in Santa but my youngest DS does. I really really want to take them to Lapland but I can't afford to stay this year but can afford the day trip BUT the day trip is a really long day and I fear they will end up moaning because they're tired! So AIBU to even consider spending over 2K for a day trip when 2 don't believe or should I just bite the bullet and take them because we may not get the opportunity again?

2k for a Day trip??? surely it could just never be worth it?

guzzlepuzzle · 09/11/2018 19:10

I've no idea people who have been say it's incredible but that is a substantial amount isn't it!

Bellabonkers · 09/11/2018 19:11

Sorry but that is an awful lot of money for one day. The kids will get over tired and it may ruin it.
I'd save for another year and at least try to do 3 days.

rosamacrose · 09/11/2018 19:16

I need to google Lapland.
£2k
One day.
Does Santa's sleigh collect you?
(Googling right now)

guzzlepuzzle · 09/11/2018 19:22

You cram a lot in and you are only in Lapland 8 hours if that as you arrive at 12 lunch due to time difference and plane back at 8pm so probably at airport by 7! You're right it's too much for one day we need to save for next year .

£2000 for a day trip half the party don’t believe in is mad. Go skiing/playing in the snow/sleigh rides instead.

missmouse101 · 09/11/2018 19:28

It really is not necessary to do such extravagant things, surely? I can't believe the cost!

guzzlepuzzle · 09/11/2018 19:53

I was thinking of it more for my youngest as he does still believe otherwise I'd just take them after Xmas for half the price!

OP posts:
missmouse101 · 09/11/2018 20:22

Personally, I wouldn't bother even for the youngest. Such a long journey, lots of travelling, so much expense for a completely unnecessary thing. Why not take all the children to a Christmas show, musical, ice skating etc?

guzzlepuzzle · 10/11/2018 07:36

Yes you are right , crazy to even consider it! Thanks MN!!

My neighbour took her 6yo grandson (and I think they stayed a night, so even more expensive) and she said it really was magical. Unless the big ones would be excited by the little one loving it, I’m not sure I’d do it.

Annie3907 · 10/11/2018 07:39

If you were well off then I would be totally saying go for it but if you are struggling then maybe wait until next year

We are going December 2020 and are saving already as it costs a bloody fortune! But it’s a once in a lifetime thing, it looks so exciting.

Notacluewhatthisis · 10/11/2018 07:40

If I had 2k spare and wanted to make Christmas amazing with it. I would spend in at home doing loads of smaller things.

That's me personally. I couldn't spend 2k on a day trip when I could do lots of smaller things with it.

MeltingWax · 10/11/2018 07:45

We stayed 2 nights when the DCs were 7 and 5. I don't think a day trip when 2 of your 3 DCs don't believe is worth it. Lapland is a lovely experience just for Lapland without the FC thing. Now that my children are older (currently 11 and 9) we are hoping to go back in a year or two after Christmas and just enjoy the snow and the activities - maybe in Feb half-term.

fussygalore118 · 10/11/2018 07:46

I'm doing 4 nights in eurodisney inbetween Xmas and new year for less than that!

guzzlepuzzle · 10/11/2018 08:03

I think the older ones would still love it as there is other aspects but I think we will save harder and go next year for a couple of days. We have done Disney Paris twice and this year the kids were fed up so not doing that again for a while (it was hot and sooo busy)

You know Santa is not real?

itsnowthewaitinggame · 10/11/2018 08:14

I took my DC at age 8 and 5. We went for a three day trip and it was bloody magical, the best time ever. However the magic was to do with the belief in Father Christmas and his elves, I wouldn't waste my money on older children ( even though the activities are amazing)

ChocolateTearDrops · 10/11/2018 08:20

@janisposh
You know Santa is not real?

Wash your mouth out! Wink You'll be getting Coal in your stocking this year. Grin

noenergy · 10/11/2018 08:20

I would go on holiday elsewhere if I had £2000 spare. Definitely not waste it on a day for something which is not real and 2 DC which didn't believe in anyway.

There are plenty of other places other than Disneyland Paris. Or else spend it on days out and bigger presents.

guzzlepuzzle · 10/11/2018 08:24

Santa isn't real?
Thanks for ruining my Saturday morning 🙄

OP posts:
guzzlepuzzle · 10/11/2018 08:24

Oh and I don't have 2K "spare" as such I am just going through a phase of thinking no point having money when memories are so precious after a spate of local deaths! I'm back on the ground now and will continue to save!

OP posts:
MaruMaru · 10/11/2018 08:27

I think you could have a lot more fun with £2k or do/ buy something more useful or long lasting.

PlayingForKittens · 10/11/2018 08:33

Have a look at booking flights and stuff yourself. We're going to lapland Feb half term for a whole week and booking separately is so much cheaper than packages. Finnair do very reasonably priced flights.

ItsAndTarts · 10/11/2018 08:37

Why do people always seem to equate 'making memories' (boak) with spending a fortune/being as extravagant as possible?
One way to set your kids up for a lifetime of disappointment if they can't afford such fanciful things when they are older
