Is it possible for me to be pregnant - BFN

Sorry I know this isn't strictly an AIBU, and also that you aren't doctors or psychic. I'm just looking for some advice from people who may have had similar experiences as I don't have anyone I can discuss this with in real life.

My AF is around 5 days late, I have had very mild cramping on and off for the last week like I'm about to start but haven't and I'm more tired than usual. I took a test yesterday but it was negative.

I have no other explanation for missing period, but I thought a test would be positive by now if I was pregnant? Has anyone heard of a negative test at this many days late which then turned out to be positive later on?

Lol ok so my cousin had this... by the time they realised she was pregnant she was 8 months 😂😂

I'm feeling the same as you though. Had light cramps for the past week, BFNs and some brown discharge maybe a week ago. AF due tomorrow but he last week I've felt like I was about to start.

Saying that though, with DS I didn't get a positive until 4 days after AF was due. So I could be waiting for a while. Or my body could just be totally messed up as I'm breast feeding

No I'm not sure when I ovulated, we haven't started tracking it properly yet.

It's so strange, I have felt sick on and off the last couple of days and feel really sick tonight, very unusual for me as I haven't felt sick/thrown up or anything without the cause being alcohol since I was a child. I know it must be my mind playing tricks on me!

Lovewine what is a first response test, are they different to the usual ones? What brand does them?

"I've never known anyone getting cramping whilst newly pregnant so not sure this is a symptom"

I did. Had cramping, assumed it was AF as usual but nothing happened. Took a test 5 days later and it was +.

First response are good OP.

Both of my pregnancies have been discovered using cheap tests (including an asda cheapie), so I don't think they are any worse then others. It might be that it hasn't shown up yet, it might be just your period is randomly a bit late, it's probably your body adjusting to you coming off the pill - it can take yonks to settle back into 'normal'

There are lots of posts like this on the conception and pregnancy forums. In the majority of cases the OP turns out not to be pregnant, it’s just late ovulation/period. This can happen even when your cycle is regular - mine was always regular and then one month was five days late for no apparent reason.

There are a small number of women who are pregnant but don’t get a positive test result until days or even weeks after their period is late but this is much less common.

Also cramping is not uncommon in early pregnancy. I had cramps from a few days before my period was due (which felt so like normal period pains that I didn’t even bother to test until my period was a day late) up until around 7-8 weeks.

Are you using any contraception? Because if not you are ttc whether you think you are or not. And as such I personally think women not using contraception who are likely to want to keep the pregnancy are best advised to

Be taking folic acid & possibly other pregnancy supporting vitamins

Avoiding alcohol

Avoiding caffeine

Avoiding the foods warned against in pregnancy.

Avoiding inhaling smoke

Because by the time you get a positive pregnancy test, you're potentially already several weeks pregnant.

If for no other reason than if/when you do fall pregnant you don't then have the worry of "oh no but I..." Throughout the pregnancy.

False negatives, false positives (my particular speciality it seems), cramping in early pregnancy - all possible.

However ALSO possible is that as you're very recently off the pill, that your body is still adjusting, that the symptoms you're experiencing relate to that.

Cramping eg could be ovulation pain. Even nausea - I get slightly nauseous around ovulation. Everyone's different.

No not actively using any, came off the pill 6 weeks ago.
Still no period today, 8th day of cramping like it's about to come. getting very annoying now!

Anyway good advice from everyone so thanks, going to take another test next week if still nothing but otherwise assume it's just my cycle settling down.
