Highly recommend (well I would Grin)

My spiced carrot and roast butternut squash soup (ingredients on my shopping list this week)

Garlic roasted butternut squash
Roughly equal amount of carrots
Approx half diced onion, 2 sticks celery and garlic. Veg stock.
Curry powder, dried or frozen coriander.

Put squash in oven studded with garlic to roast.

Prep carrots

Fry off in a little oil the onion, celery and couple cloves garlic. Once translucent/soft add stock, spices & carrots and boil till carrots soft.

Remove from heat.

Add scooped out squash.

Blend until smooth and creamy.

Haven't given spice amounts as its to taste.

Also nice with a swirl of natural yoghurt or creme fraiche.

Hot vimto.
Apple strudel and custard/cream.
But hot vimto above everything else.

Davros · 08/11/2018 23:45

Winter Pimms. It's a special type, add Apple juice and warm up. I'm looking forward to my first of this winter at the weekend

tillytrotter21 · 09/11/2018 10:55

I'm sure the local shops only have sugar free Ribena now

Then you need to move!!

I love pea and ham soup, our butcher does lovely off cuts really cheaply, I also make good use of the slow cooker, Morrisons's had reduced shin beef last week, bought loads, cooks all day with onions, carrots etc., delicious and the house smells great, there's also lots of gravy left over for other uses!

SneakyGremlins · 09/11/2018 10:59

Ooooh I've got so many new ideas!

Davros beat me to it!

MogThoughtDarkThoughts · 09/11/2018 11:01

A mountain of carbs. Any carbs will do, as long as they're covered with butter.

PeridotCricket · 09/11/2018 11:03

Pie.

DeadButDelicious · 09/11/2018 11:05

Christmas dinner.

I used to love warm ribena. But they've ruined it with sweeteners.

Piffle11 · 09/11/2018 11:06

English Heritage Ginger Wine. I can't buy it til close to Christmas as I drink it all and have to re-buy. Not overly keen on ginger usually, and was put off ginger wine decades ago by an old aunty who made her own … it was bloody awful stuff. But the EH one is so yum and warming.

CoughLaughFart · 09/11/2018 11:17

Discovered this completely by accident - I was making mulled wine, grabbed what I thought was the cinnamon and then realised I’d tipped in a load of garam masala. But it REALLY works. Gives it a lovely spicy, warming kick.

SneakyGremlins · 09/11/2018 11:21

Oh the best recipes are the accidental ones!
