That I think they are overpriced? E.g £4.50 for a slice of meat pie. There were loads of gorgeous foodie items but very much out of the everyday price range for me.Is this the norm? Should I just get my coat and slope of to Aldi?

I was just coming on to say you need to get to Chatsworth. Especially when the Xmas marquee bit is open. But yes, they're not cheap.

It depends on the ingredients. We have a few very naice ones and they all source ingredients very locally, ethical / green /organic etc. Some of it is pricey some isn't.

But without fail it all tastes a lot better than anything from a supermarket. So we tend to buy a little bit less of it and make choices about local vs supermarket shopping as we go.

Then we are lucky to live in a small market town with a real butcher, baker and greengrocer, so we can be quite naice with little effort!!!

Is it a farm shop or a touristic poncey experience farm shop?

Where I live - rural - we have both. At a real farm shop you can buy meat actually farmed on the farm which will be expensive but high quality, possibly some veg and then a small range of other stuff.

At the other type there will be a v small meat counter hidden behind a wall of biscuits in naice tins, chocolates in naice boxes and a sea of cellophane wrapping and ribbon. Also a large table of artisan crisps.

There is no clue on pulling in which type you are going to get, except the latter tends to have fewer potholes in the carpark.

QueenOfMyWorld · 08/11/2018 15:44

Anna a bit of both I think

We tend to get them specialising in beef, lamb, fruit, veg etc. It sounds like a pfaff but as we have to drive past them to get home we end up shopping in all of them, regularly, pot holes and all (and even a private house for Dexter beef Smile )
