How brainwashed are we? Did you see CNN reporter 'lay hands' on Trump staffer?

I didn't. All I saw was Mr Toddler having a ranty deranged tantrum whilst reporter tried to do his job by asking the Toddler a question. How about you?

Shocking, from what they said, I at least expected the reporter to try and move her aside out his eye line, he didn't even touch her!

Echobelly · 08/11/2018 19:12

Sarah Sanders appears to actually now be sharing a DOCTORED version of it where he touches the woman's arm more than once, so it looks like more of a tussle. The POTUS' Press Secretary actually sharing a doctored footage to frame a journalist for wrongdoing.

Nothing happening here, no problems with this Presidency at all...

FekkoThePenguin · 08/11/2018 19:15

The intern tried to snatch it (I thought she was quite rude) he had his arm up a so technically she laid hands on him.

Poor woman - she is on a hiding to nothing whatever she says. But then she does whorl for the Orange House.

Someone needs to tell him that he is overdoing it with the sun bed. He's got the white piggy-eye.

MrDonut · 08/11/2018 20:44

I saw an article on the BBC Facebook page and they were pretty clear in their defense of Acosta. But, the BBC have also had their fair share of issues with Trump.

That's what makes no sense to me. The BBC and CNN are dismissed as fake news, but some obscure pro-Republican online "news" service is taken as gospel truth.

MrDonut · 08/11/2018 20:46

Trump would fire Sarah H-S on a whim, if he felt like it. Man has no loyalty.

Racecardriver · 08/11/2018 20:47

News reports I have heard we’re that the staffer took the mic from the reporter.

FermatsTheorem · 08/11/2018 20:49

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/11/08/white-house-accused-editing-footage-cnn-reporter-video-experts/

The Telegraph has got some video analysts in to look at it frame-by-frame (apologies, behind paywall) and the version the White House released appears to have repeated frames to make it look (as a PP put it) as though he's karate chopping her, when in fact his arm just flails a bit in response to her making contact with him.

longwayoff · 08/11/2018 21:41

MrDonut. The bbc and cnn are both creditable news services with years and years of experience in dealing with tuppenny hapenny politicians of all stripes. They dont really do favours for them or slavishly fawn over their brilliance. Unlike Fox news, a relative newcomer and Trumps favoured nest of vipers. Apparently Fox is widely watched in US. Trumps minions have invested immense time and energy in undermining creditable news sources by simply dismissing them as fake news, constantly, whilst praising Fox and even loonier internet sources. Constantly blurring truths and distorting reality until people doubt everything. As devised by Goebbels, practised by Hitler and written by Orwell. Doublespeak. He is very dangerous to us all.

IStandWithPosie · 08/11/2018 21:49

It’s funny because on a very anti trump FB book (although that’s not the purpose of the group) they tried to spin this as Trumps staffer assaulting the reporter! Grin no-one was assaulted! No-one! There was a snatch attempt at the microphone and then she realises she can’t do that and crouches down.

toomuchtooold · 08/11/2018 21:55

You can't fault the guy's shitty tactics. As well as diverting attention away from the journalist's awkward questions he also gets to fucking gaslight us about what sexual assault is. "But I thought you said we weren't supposed to touch the ladies any more, I'm just doing what you asked us to" oh just fuck right off. I can see what you're doing.

honeysucklejasmine · 08/11/2018 21:59

Argh ffs. Can the US not see they are descending to dictatorship a la Russia?

DH has US relatives. We asked them about Trump when they visited this Summer. The takeaway was "yeah, he's a bit odd but the economy is doing great so whatever." I was so, so, disappointed. These are normal, rational, intelligent people, and they just don't care.

longwayoff · 08/11/2018 22:14

Honeysuckle, its bizarre isnt it? I feel like I've fallen jnto a parallell universe where all previous certainties have been reversed. And off topic but related to the general political derangement, Dominic Raab, Brexit Secretary, has said he didnt realise until recently how important the port of Dover is to trade. Bewildering, its the main route into Europe from UK and always has been. People have been asking for 2 years how trade will continue. And he's just noticed. Not like it's his job or anything.

OP posts:
FermatsTheorem · 08/11/2018 22:29

Honeysuckle there was a very interesting article in yesterday's Telegraph by their economics editor (I took out a sub deliberately after Trump's election to make sure I got out of my own "left wing bubble"). Basically saying that the apparent wellbeing of the US economy (low unemployment, apparently good things happening for their manufacturing industry) are all an illusion - Trump is buying this false boom by cutting taxes (so lowering government revenue) while spending on capital vanity projects and fiscal stimuli he can't afford. The whole thing is going to come crashing down round the US's ears come the next economic downturn. The Telegraph take is that Trump is behaving like a typical tin-pot populist leader (I think the analogy was with Peron in Argentina) - buying populist votes he can't afford, with no thought for the long-term future.

So your DH's relatives could be in for a nasty surprise 3 or 4 years down the line.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 08/11/2018 22:35

As someone who has helped out at small press conferences in the past (and found it super stressful) I do feel a bit sorry for the intern. But he definitely didn't touch her

SilentIsla · 08/11/2018 22:38

Erm...nope. More insanity from the lunatic.

honeysucklejasmine · 08/11/2018 22:48

longwayoff I could have cried when I heard Raab's comment. The bloody idiot. I despair.

FermatsTheorem I hope for their sake they don't, but for the sake of everyone else, it needs to happen. Sad

Flyaway78 · 08/11/2018 23:32

I have zero sympathy for the intern. I can’t indratand how any woman would support Trump.

And no one was assaulted.

longwayoff · 09/11/2018 06:24

I'm taking a grain of comfort from the replies on this thread as the vicious and vocal Trump supporters would once have filled it up bawling about how wonderful he is and how stupid we are. Not one. Good. Maybe some people are reclaiming ownership of their brains and even using them.

OP posts:
Buteo · 09/11/2018 07:46

the vicious and vocal Trump supporters

Guess they aren’t around any more because they’ve been redirected to other targets. They’ll be back in the run up to the next presidential election I’m sure.

HiHoToffee · 09/11/2018 07:49

I was watching either c4 or bbc the other night where they were interviewing 3 women, 1 dem and 2 republicans and they asked the question about Trump's behaviour. One of the rep's said more or less the same as honeysuckle's relative, the economy is doing well, people have more money in their pockes and therefore she is willing to overlook his behaviour.

I also watched that doctored clip on newsnight and I can't see anything like an 'assault' even on that one.

FekkoThePenguin · 09/11/2018 07:53

I really think that I could be president for a couple of years and the country could cruise rather nicely for a while. I seem to remember learning something like that in Business class.

I'm far better behaved and much prettier (not orange with the piggy-eye). I do swear like a grown up though.

longwayoff · 09/11/2018 08:14

Buteo you're probably right. Maybe Russia's cut the funds off. Better than cutting our gas off I suppose.
