A bit of backstory first: DP and I have been together 5 years, he suffers from anxiety and when we first got together had really low self esteem. Lately he’s just been taking me for granted, bailing on plans, generally moaning whenever I ask him to do anything with me and just making comments which make me feel shit about myself. I have pulled him up on this and he always says sorry, seems apologetic and like he genuinely didn’t mean it in the way I’ve taken it.

Anyway the other weekend I had to nag him to come out with my friends and I for a friends birthday. He moans before, gets into the club and he’s perked up a bit. Male friend who’s birthday it is mentions going to a strip club, DP perks up even more. All the other girlfriends seem to want to go to, so I don’t want to be a party pooper. We get to the strip club, once inside I get a text from some of the girlfriends to say they’ve changed their minds. So here I am, only girlfriend stupid enough to come in and not particularly enjoying myself and feeling shit because all the strippers are amazing. Of course I hear my DP talking about how fit one particular stripper is and how she’s just his type (stripper is complete opposite to me). I go to the toilet because I’m upset, then I come back and found out he’s had a lap dance off her. Asked him what happened (as I honestly have no idea what happens in a lap dance) and says “oh she just got naked and rubbed up on me, don’t worry I only got a semi” I just thought he’d be a bit more understanding about potentially hurting my feelings when he has self esteem issues himself.

Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed at this? He says if it was that big a deal I shouldn’t have gone along but I wasn’t exactly expecting this.

Please stop excusing his behaviour and enabling him to be so disrespectful to you. You deserve better and are mot responsible for his anxiety/hangups ...

Personally, the idea that he thought a lapdance was even a thought would be a dealbreaker for me ..

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 09/11/2018 18:53

I'd leave. Actually leave; not threaten to do so. It seems the only boost he needs for his low self esteem is a naked woman that he's paying to dance for him...

He's a thoughtless twat at very best.

Teachtolive · 09/11/2018 18:54

You are being unreasonable if you're still calling this guy your partner! "I only got a semi"??! What a disrespectful asshole. Regardless of whether or not you condoned his going to the strip club by you going in too, nothing gives him the right to speak so disrespectfully in front of you and to you. Get rid.

adoggymama · 09/11/2018 19:22

Are you serious, fuck him. Leave him with the trash stripper.

I'm so sorry OP! Xx

EdinaMonsoon · 09/11/2018 19:30

OP are you actually seriously contemplating staying with this asshole? I would have walked out there & then, gone home, packed his shit up and left it on the doorstep, leaving the key in the door after I'd locked it so that he couldn't get in.

Dump him. You are worth more than this.

crazycatlady5 · 09/11/2018 19:33

I don’t really have respect for guys who enjoy strip clubs so it would be a naaahhh from me.

chocolatebox1 · 09/11/2018 20:04

That's absolutely horrible OP. I can't believe this happened, what an awful man. I would have told him to go do one. I'm not surprised you were upset, it would have really upset anyone. This man's behaviour is unacceptable

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 09/11/2018 20:10

I know people look at the opposite sex and some people have a type, but it's horrible to talk about another woman in front of you, especially in that situation where you're in a strip club and bound to be feeling a bit unconfident and you're the only woman and in front of a lot of people. That's a lot more than an admiring glance. I don't see how anyone would not realise that would result in their partner feeling like absolute shit. He either has no empathy at all which is very unlikely given his self esteem issues or he doesn't give a shit
