To want to find an old cat that needs me?

I want to adopt the oldest cat I can find to give it a loving home for the last year or two of it’s life. I’m single and work from home so he/she would be welcome company, but I don’t want an energetic kitten or young cat. I like the idea of caring for an elderly cat (even one with health problems) and knowing that it’s loved and cared for in its final years. I live in a 2 bed flat, so none of the cat charities I’ve contacted will allow a cat to be rehomed with me, even though the flat is ground floor and there is communal garden areas. Is there anywhere else I can contact for this? I live in the south east.

We got our boy when he was 12 years old from the rescue centre, he'd been in there a while due to his age. We fell in love at his first meow!
He's now approaching 21 years old and still going strong!
Old cats are fab, yes, they can be a bit set in their ways, but they do love a good cuddle and snuggle in bed!
We do have to brush our boy daily even though he's short haired as he's a bit arthritic now, but apart from that and his yearly check up, he's in good health.

Also recommend cinnamon trust, my colleagues always laugh at me at work (hospital) as l will ask patients on admission about dependents including animals!

We would rip your arm off! But we are south west based.
Have a look at small independent charities.
www.catchat.org is a good place to look
Good lyck

These are West Sussex, and you might be too far, but worth a call. They often take in cats where an owner has died, so older cats needing a quiet home with company.

That’s so wonderful OP. I hope you find the right cat. I know someone who recently did just that. A family with older children who live in a flat - so they got an elderly cat that is very happy to have a new home.

... so many beautiful cats on your site.

Vinorosso74 · 08/11/2018 07:51

He has a lovely face!

Have you tried contacting local cat grooming services? - they sometimes know about cats in need of a new home (that's how we found our last two cats who'd belonged to an elderly lady who could no longer cope with them)

Plump82 · 25/11/2018 16:16

Any update on this OP?

katseyes7 · 25/11/2018 16:23

l think that sounds lovely. And so do you. Too many people want kittens, and the older cats get bypassed. lt's a very kind thing to do, to take on an older animal. l've got three house rabbits and my doe is eight and a half. l'd like to think someone would take them on, in their bonded group, if anything happened to me. l think you get a lot of love from an older animal - they tend to be a lot calmer and just want a bit of comfort and love. Bless you for doing that. x

YANBU - it sounds a really nice idea to me. I hope you find someone who can help (or should I say who will accept your help). Sadly I can't recommend anyone as I live in a different region and can't have a cat because DH is allergic to them.
