its unusual for a president to gain seats in any houses at midterms normally they lose seats in both. in fact only 3 of the last 21 midterms has a president not lost seats in both houses. therefore the democrats have underachieved. nb saying trump sucks (which i agree with is not an answer)

Yes, I too wish that they'd done better with Senate seats etc. BUT the US, especially Texas, Georgia etc is shockingly conservative, so that O'Rourke et al came so close is encouraging. And crucially, the Dems now have the house and the chance for a real push-back against the repellent Trump.

I agree and I wish they'd acknowledge that this isn't an ideal result. Pretending they're close to changing the country and getting rid of Trump is exactly the wrong attitude to take. They still have lots of work to do and this result will only embolden the Republicans especially since it was the moderate Republicans that lost their seats. That will encourage the Reps to move to the right as the most conservative performed better.

BUT the US, especially Texas, Georgia etc is shockingly conservative, texas is not as conservative as west Virginia in the 2016 eletion trump got 68 percent of the vote in west Virginia and only 52 percent in texas. point being west virginia reelected a democratic senator.

It is not a huge fail for Trump at all. All he had to do was avoid disaster, and he did so. The Dems should be disappointed despite their successes here and there.
