Formula stock

JW1226 · 07/11/2018 09:13

I'm in the south east of London, I'm pretty pissed off at the fact no local shops or pharmacies have baby formula well stocked in my local area! Well Sainsbury's local had the one I'm using but was out of stock so I was offered a follow on milk 🤦🏻‍♀️ the pharmacy only had a different brand.

This has left me traveling half an hour to another area to get it from the superstore, not only that I'm having to buy in bulk and it's not ideal because it weighs a fair bit and I have a double buggy (3 children in total) so basket space is limited.

It made me feel I was doing something wrong by formula feeding , I am fully aware breast is best but come on formula is not illegal.

Who can I query this to because in my eyes this isn't on and I can't be the only one around here concerned.

Which one are you using?

ileclerc · 07/11/2018 09:25

What are using?

Ghanagirl · 07/11/2018 09:27

Who said formula was illegal you’re being a bit dramatic most mothers in England actually formula feed.

Tomatoesrock · 07/11/2018 09:27

Ask your local chemist to order a few tubs. I always grind it hard to find the comfort milk. The chemist was very helpful.

Strippervicar · 07/11/2018 09:27

It has been a while since I bough formula but do they still limit it to two? I think that it is govt policy to promote breast is best. Also, can you shop online.

On the other hand you could make the formula shopping an activity by having lunch at the supermarket cafe.

drinkygin · 07/11/2018 09:27

I really don’t think there’s some conspiracy to limit stocks of formula to shame people for not breastfeeding Hmm not sure what your AIBU is to be honest.

AllyMcBeagle · 07/11/2018 09:28

If Sainsbury's do it can't you just get a bulk order delivered?

bobstersmum · 07/11/2018 09:28

I ff my first and at the time he was on comfort milk and it had production issues, was a nightmare and I was worried and frustrated like you op. Can you get a bulk order from amazon?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 07/11/2018 09:30

My DS had to be on lactose free formula that that was so hard to get hold of sometimes. Even the pharmacy struggled.
And it still annoys me that I couldn't get boots points for formula.

SnuggyBuggy · 07/11/2018 09:31

It's a bit crap when it's essential food for a baby

JustJoinedRightNow · 07/11/2018 09:33

I’m in Australia and we have a baby formula shortage - it’s almost a crisis. Personal shoppers are buying the tins in bulk and shipping them to Asia, where they then sell them for three-four times the price. Google it - baby formula shortage in Australia. It’s crazy!

Thesearmsofmine · 07/11/2018 09:37

When one of mine was small a few years ago there was an issue getting formula and they started limiting the amount you could buy at one time, I was also stressed about it so can understand how you feel.

Beingginger · 07/11/2018 09:55

Your pharmacy will be able to order it from their wholesaler, just ask them to get some in for you

User1983 · 07/11/2018 10:01

Which brand do you use? I tend to order online from Boots. I use Hipp organic so I can also order from their website direct.

LuvSmallDogs · 07/11/2018 10:04

Blaablaablaa, apparently you can’t spend Boots points on it either! My friend (who couldn’t BF due to medication) was skintish towards the end of the month, but figured she could use the cash on the groceries and points on formula...nope!

dementedpixie · 07/11/2018 10:06

You can only earn or spend points on follow on milk not first milk

BiscuitDrama · 07/11/2018 10:11

Have you looked on Twitter to see if anyone else is finding the same? I’m not sure what you’ll do once you’ve found that info though.

I’d tweet/email supermarkets.

If they can’t give instant reassurance, then I think I’d be trying to take it higher somehow, no idea how. MP if it is a widespread supply problem?

I agree with ordering online if you can, also that’s a good point that Boots and other surprising shops may sell it. Mothercare maybe?

I’d be pretty upset and panicky in your position.

FissionChips · 07/11/2018 10:12

It made me feel I was doing something wrong by formula feeding , I am fully aware breast is best but come on formula is not illegal

How ridiculous! Most women formula feed, you really think shops are purposely under stocking formula to guilt-trip you?

Omzlas · 07/11/2018 10:19

The last time I bought formula, I was informed that you were limited to buying 2 boxes as there had been a scare in China (I could be wrong about the country) where formula was contaminated and some babies died as a result. This lead to people bulk buying here and shipping it overseas, this left stock shortages in the UK

Can you order online OP, maybe alongside a weekly shop so you're not paying delivery just for formula?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 07/11/2018 10:31

@luv it made me rage at the time ( and bit now when I think about it!)

kaytee87 · 07/11/2018 10:33

Order it online.

There's no conspiracy here.

SheilaBruce · 07/11/2018 10:40

Check it out www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6361659/Brazen-baby-formula-syndicate-caught-abusing-Woolworths-two-tin-limit-Westfield-Hurtsville.html. This is currently happening in Australia. Yes it's a DM link.

JW1226 · 07/11/2018 13:33

@Ghanagirl That's exactly my point.

OP posts:
JW1226 · 07/11/2018 13:39

I'm not sure if it's limited I managed to buy 3 from the superstore.

I'm using the Cow and Gate brand , the pharmacy only supplied aptamil I will ask if they are able to order some in, I didn't actually think of ordering online that seems the best idea so Thankyou for recommending that!

I wasn't implying it was a conspiracy btw, I just felt like I was doing something wrong by choosing to formula feed and then struggling trying to find places locally that sell it.
