How do you ready yourself for a sickness bug

Wondered how/if you have strategies in place for if/when your DC or yourself become ill with sickness bugs.
I have bin liners in all the bins in our bedrooms(normal) and a roll of spare liners so I can just throw away the contents and hopefully contain the germs.
Here’s where it gets a bit odd... I have a pre-made bleach solution in a spray bottle, a pack of disposable gloves in our bedroom and surgical face masks for cleanups, so I don’t breathe in the particles of puke!
Anyone else a total nut job or AIBU??

Zoflora and Dettol don't kill stomach viruses Romany. Only bleach or special hospital grade cleaners do. Obviously any cleaning will help though.

I have similar to you OP expect I dont use bags in bins. There's a designated dish handy which gets rinsed and sprayed after each use. I make up the bleach solution fresh, I don't think it stays strong if sitting about.

I don't really see the point in masks as viruses can enter through the eyes as well. Vomiting bugs are only airborne for a short time after someone is sick.

Quarantine and assign designated toilet to infected and keep them there until they stop being sick and have had a shower.

Then big clean of all touchables dueiftand after.

Blackink

I've raised 3 dc and never knew this. Grin I had no idea, I just used Dettol.

Pikehau · 07/11/2018 12:33

do you know its coming?

we get alot here (thats abother thread today)

I just know where all the stuff is and get it. eg) I have gloves and bleach and a bucket in the utility room. I have a spray bottle that i make up when needed and have a roll of kitchen roll. I have old towels and curtains and those bed pads in a cupboard. §

not all "ready" but accessible.

I wouldnt have them lying around just in case

But I am a firm beliver in whatever makes you comfortable! so no right and wrong answer.

I am a emetophobe so when the kids were smaller I had buckets nearby, rubber gloves and bleach to hand. If someone started showing symptoms then I would cover their bed with old towels (so I could just throw them away if puked on). I tried very hard not to catch any bugs my dc’s brought home but most of the time it didn’t work.

As a child of someone who has this phobia please please be careful around your children. My dad made me put out a towel and sick bowl by my bed every night til I was about 12. If we were sick (I can only remember having 2 sickness bugs as a child) he would shout at us for being ill. It was horrible :(

Amaaboutthis · 09/11/2018 19:01

Nothing at all. I always have bleach in so deal with it if it happens. Have 3 kids only recall 2 bugs in about 15 years

mollycoddle77 · 09/11/2018 20:48

An update from me - my DS (5) had D&V this week and without anything other than washing hands after toilet visits (both me and him) and wiping off the d & v from toilet seats and floors with bleach, none of the rest of the family have caught it. Five other kids in his class had it. So I am convinced all the extra efforts you go to (gloves, aprons, mask, excessive cleaning of anything other than the actual d or v) is completely futile.

Your body will decide whether or not to go down with a bug - so eat your greens instead and don't stress!!

Allthewaves · 09/11/2018 20:59

Buckets with lids, tea tree oil or lavender for bottom of bucket - bit of water helps contain smells and easy cleaning. Load of flannels. Spray carpet cleaner and sponges.

Petalflowers · 09/11/2018 21:05

Wow, everyone is so organised. We don’t have any buckets etc just-in-case, and if anyone does feel sick, will grab a plastic container from the kitchen.

ItsAndTarts · 09/11/2018 22:55

Why on earth would anyone need a bp/sp02 monitor with a sickness bug?
