To reuse my teacup?

RatRolyPoly · 06/11/2018 15:35

To be fair I probably take it too far at home, as I happily reuse the same mug for tea until it's almost unrecognisable! But in the office every single person uses a fresh mug for every cup of tea. We have the dishwasher going daily and we're only a small office!

I'm really thinking these days about wasted water and reducing unnecessary energy usage, but would I be a total scrubber to mention that maybe I could use the same mug each time? Could I even go so far as to suggest maybe others might like to do the same?

Is this gross?? Or just eminently sensible in this day and age?

So you don't give it a rinse before you use it again? Not even just with some water? Sorry that's pretty rank.

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 07/11/2018 00:12

Yup, definitely put each cup in the dishwasher here. I love a sparkling clean cup each time and nothing cleans it better than the dishwasher.

Ollivander84 · 07/11/2018 00:15

I rinse throughout the day and wash it every morning

Nah. It doesn't seem to need it. Grin

Fair enough. In my defence I wash all the other cups. I would never give someone else a cup of tea in a manky cup. That's just for me.

Unicyclethief · 07/11/2018 00:22

I used to use a fresh cup each time, but I have such a weird and rigid hierarchy of the cups I do own that even I can’t always remember. Therefore it is safer to use the same cup rather than accidentally using an inferior cup and totally ruining a cup of tea.

Alwaysasparklymoment99 · 07/11/2018 01:20

I use a fresh cup. Have a huge issue with reusing without washing tbh. Not so much with reusing as long as cup is washed. I wouldnt make someone a cup of tea/coffee without cleaning their cup. To me, its gross.

Cant people just wash their mugs out after a brew, and why do people need a dishwasher .just for a few mugs,, so much water used, its crazy.

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/11/2018 04:28

Dishwashers use hardly any water, can't work out why people keep saying otherwise. Very likely that multiple people washing mugs individually will use more.

Mine uses 11 litres per cycle. That's about half a sinkful, and a load could be dozens of mugs.

Dartsplayer · 07/11/2018 10:22

We reuse our cups every day in the office and just rinse it before making each fresh cup of tea then into the dishwasher at the end of the day. We all have our own mugs so that we know whose is whose

Post a picture of it. This is mine with a rinse after each use and a proper wash each morning. I normally only have loose green tea though.

I use the same cup for tea each time but do wash it out first. I couldn't use a dirty cup myself but don't judge those that do.

arriettyspiders · 07/11/2018 12:20

If I were to have a cup of tea/coffee immediately after the first then I might consider not rinsing. But I only drink a couple of tea/coffee type drinks a day so cups are definitely rinsed or washed between uses.

woollyjumperseason · 07/11/2018 12:23

to clean off tea stains you really dont need to use bleach. bicarb and wahsing up liquid make a paste and put it on the mug. leave 10min if its really bad then scrub off with a little water.

Dollygirl2008 · 07/11/2018 12:53

I re-use my mug at home, rinse it after each use and put it in the dishwasher once a week. It gets dark brown on the inside - adds to the flavour. It's my favourite mug - right size, right thickness, one of a kind - perfect! Comes up a treat each week. Rank? Probably, but it's my rank!!

Of course, I behave much better at work...

Tomatoesrock · 07/11/2018 13:05

I could use it twice but I would give it a quick rinse in between uses.
I'd imagine after two days the cup would be scummy with used milk and tea.

PanamaPattie · 07/11/2018 13:06

I use a very stained and chipped mug at work. This guarantees that it won't be stolen from my desk.
