Looking for a beach/ pool holiday in school holidays but not too hot.
Dd and I want to go to Greece but not if it is too hot? E.g. 35 plus.

Where is also nice but a bit cooler. Do hates too much heat. Maybe a lake holiday ? Swimming is a must.

No, lots of the islands are very breezy.

malificent7 · 06/11/2018 14:04

We want a bit of culture too for us oldies!

The Greek islands are amazing and as long as you don't go mid August it's hot but not unbearable, up to about 30 but often with a breeze

Ohyesiam · 06/11/2018 14:05

It’s waaay too hot I’m august and I’m half Greek! It’s utterly perfect in May though.

Then go to an island with culture. The mainland is intolerably hot in July/August.

user1499173618 · 06/11/2018 14:06

I was in Greece in August and it was 25 and lovely!

CaseStudyResearch · 06/11/2018 14:07

We were cold in Santorini in May (about 25 degrees with a breeze) but Kos in September was absolutely perfect for us (29-31 degrees).

Lightsong · 06/11/2018 14:10

We went to Kefalonia the last two weeks of Aug 2017 and it was perfect, hot but definitely not too hot (and DS was only 5 months old at the time). We did Malta the same time this year and it was hot as hell.

Crete has a lot to see and do especially if you like history, try and get across to spinalonga, read the island first if you can, great book, but DH hadn't and still found the trip fascinating. There's also Knossos, lassithi plateau the alleged birthplace of Zeus, the national park, chrissi island, lovely beaches, fabulous places to eat. I'd recommend hiring a car. We've visited a lot of the Greek islands but Crete is a good starting point.

Love these suggestions....read the Island...loved it. Will go for Crete or Santorini.

Santorini suffers dreadfully from overtourism

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 09/11/2018 07:05

We went to Rhodes in May a few years ago and it was 33 degrees, but didn’t feel it due to the breeze. Lovely!

TheNoodlesIncident · 09/11/2018 07:17

Not Santorini!

It really isn't a great place for kids. There's no fun things like waterparks and the sand is black volcanic, it gets waaaaaay too hot to walk on.

Crete is great, more places to go to and the beaches are fab, Samaria Gorge is beautiful. Corfu is also lovely with waterparks and great beaches.

On Greek islands there is always a bit of a sea breeze, but expect temperatures to be about 30 degrees in July, 35 in August, back down to 29-30 in September. It does vary (and we have found Corfu to be hotter than other more southerly islands for some reason) but it does tend to peak at over 30 in the height of the season.

We've been going to Greek islands since 2001, but next year DS wants to go somewhere else "that isn't Greece" Shock Sad. We may have to have a week in Kassiopi without him

DontCallMeCharlotte · 09/11/2018 08:14

Definitely cross Santorini off the list. We fly in and out of Santorini en route to another island via ferry. We stay for a night or two at either end of our trip and it's great but would never stay for a main holiday and it's completely un-family friendly in terms of beaches etc. It's also been incredibly hot when we've been there in June (high 30s) for the last couple of years.

EssentialHummus · 09/11/2018 08:29

Crete is wonderful, but we tend to go in May-June and find July-August too hot.
