I would like to have a professional portrait taken of the DCs and am just looking for advice from any photographers or people who’ve had something similar done. Nothing too formal; those sort of relaxed looking photos on a white background or just on a rug/sofa etc.

DC2 is an easygoing baby, 8 months old, sits up well and smiles nicely - but not always on command Hmm. DC1 is a preschooler, so much easier.

I am just wondering whether a photo would be likely to come out better now (when I can also give copies to impossible to buy for grandparents as Christmas presents Blush), or if I should wait a few months until DC2 turns one. Which do you think makes a better shot, and is it much/any easier to get a good photograph when they are that bit older?

Thank you, I realise it’s a very small problem!!

I would think it would be better before he gets mobile, once they are newly mobile they hate sitting still and if you manage to get that then it won't be with a happy face

I had a photo done of my two DCs when the younger one was around 9 months old - the photographer used props / a tickly feather to get them both to smile/laugh and the picture came out lovely.
We also had a Christmas Renes done around the time the little one was just turned 1 - came out great as well and we used it to make Christmas cards.
A decent photographer with experience of young children will know what to do so either option should be fine!

A Christmas one*

I'd do it now. This is a job for a specialist, so choose a pro photographer with experience with babies/young children: they have the right experience and training and will have props etc to make the finished picture that bit nicer.

We have one when dd was 18 months and ds 3. She looks so sweet and happy . But the truth is she kept running around the studio and only stood still for that one moment. Poor ds was sitting for ages. But the photographer got his picture. So do it whenever it suits as they are professionals and will manage.

Great thank you everyone - I think I’ll just crack on then!
