First driving lesson and instructor late

I'm nervous for various reasons and he's late. I just want to go home for a cup of tea!
I can barely afford the lessons, am a late learner, had 10 awful lessons with a horrible instructor that out me off so booked in with this guy as recommended. Not happy it's a bloke as been sexually assaulted in the past and don't want to get in a vehicle with a stranger (don't like taxis either)but shortage of female instructors. Argh!
He's 10 mins late so far so not a good first impression.

I think it's a tough time of the day for a driving lesson. Everyone is either likely to be on the way to/from the school run, or commuting to work, so traffic is of course going to be pretty unpredictable. I doubt he left the house late on purpose.

Are you able to arrange lessons at a less busy time of day?

Hope it went okay. Things can happen and sometimes they awkwardly happen on a really important first time. Let us know how it went!

I think you should wait and book lessons with a female instructor as it doesn’t sound like this is going to work for you.

I wouldn't blame him for being late at this time - 9.30am often means traffic in most parts of the country!

Argh stupid anxiety got the better of me! Thanks for the replies. It actually went really well and remembered most things from my lessons at the start of the year. Phew! The traffic was particularly bad this morning he said. It's him that's suggested that time of day and fits with dropping my children at school so is fine. Feel silly now

Did he give you the full time?

PerverseConverse · 06/11/2018 10:55

Actually it was about 5 mins short but I was really happy with the lesson.

My driving instructor cancelled my first driving lesson because he'd had his car stolen the night before! Shit happens sometimes. Glad you had a good lesson though, does he seem better and nicer than your previous instructor?

He was really good! My last lessons (I had a block of 10 and last one was around March/April) had me so tense it would take me an hour when I got home to relax again. I dreaded them. She was so critical of everything and expected me to know what I was doing in certain situations without having been taught how to deal with them. For example I got stuck on a hill and she hadn't taught me to do hill starts so was really anxious as in a huge line of traffic and rolling back towards the car behind. She never praised anything I did do well or on instinct and constantly changed the goal posts and was just horrible. I feel quite confident after today's lesson so here's hoping I pass one day.
