AIBU to think that 5 pairs of school shoes a year is too many?

My DD (8) and DS (11) seem to fly through their school shoes. If they haven't outgrown them then they wear them out as if there's no tomorrow!

On average, I think we've been going through almost 5 pairs of shoes, per child, each year of their primary schooling so far. I've tried a whole variety of brands, styles and prices, and there's been no consistency in terms of how quickly they wear out. We seem to be spending a near fortune on keeping good shoes on both of their feet...

I am wondering what others experiences have been with how many pairs of school shoes their child goes through each year? Is five pairs a year an abnormal amount? and should the money i'm spending on the shoes reflect on how long they last before falling apart? Recommendations more than welcome!!

We are 1.5 - 2 for DS. Had current pair since Easter but they are pretty scruffy looking (but not worn through).

DDs first year and her patent M&S Mary Janes look brand new.

Hello lovely people!

Apologies for jumping on to this thread...

I am a business management student at the University of Winchester. I’m currently studying a market research module where a requirement of our study is to partake in real life market research for a start up company.

I was wondering if anyone with children that are primary school age or early secondary school age would be willing to fill out a quick questionnaire for me please?

It shouldn’t take more than five minutes to complete and would be extremely valuable to my degree!

I would be very grateful to anyone that can help out and please let me know if there are any questions that I can answer surrounding this.

The questionnaire can be found here - goo.gl/forms/yNBeUIFscYB4tb313

My schedule go though one pair of Dr Martens Mary Janes. They are the only school shoes I buy.

My DS used to go through 5 pairs a year. I have tried Clarks, Dr Martins, Kickers, Asda and M and S. He does have a problem with his feet (walks on top-toes) so wears the sole out quickly and can split the sides.

A friend recommended Geox savage. What a life saver. Lasted him the whole school year. No splitting and he has no holes in the soles. They are also really comfy and didn't give him blisters like Dr Martins and Kickers.

Two pairs a year. One at Christmas, one at Easter. M&S.
