To not go

To a job interview tomorrow.
Obviously I will cancel properly rather than just not pitch up.

I've had an awful week and have not had time to research properly, or prepare the presentation. I can swot up a bit now and cobble something together but it won't be impressive.

What's worse -
cancelling or
turning up knowing I'll be shit?

Do you really want the job?

Aquamarine1029 · 05/11/2018 20:49

Fuck that negative attitude! Great things come out of pressure. Pull yourself together, get cracking on that presentation, and then go on tomorrow with your head held high. Fake it until you make it! You can do this!

Dobbyhasnomaster · 05/11/2018 20:49

It’s only quarter to 9... if you really want the job then you can do this. Couple of hours tonight, get up an hour earlier tomorrow and go over your notes again. However if you aren’t really bothered then save yourself the stress. 🤷‍♀️ Good luck if you go for it!!

Caprisunorange · 05/11/2018 20:50

Go. Can’t bekieve you’d consider cancelling!

Upslidedown · 05/11/2018 20:52

Way worse to cancel given the degree of how shit you'll be is undoubtedly in your head.

MrsExpo · 05/11/2018 20:52

If you’ve booked leave or otherwise have time to go, I think I do still go. Do as much as you can in the time available (even if that’s 5 minutes), explain your time constraints and go for it. They may be impressed at how much you’ve managed to do in the very limited time available, your ability to wing it in difficult circumstances or your capacity to pick up complex issues in a short time frame ....

In any event, the experience will be valuable to prepare you for next time.

How badly do you want this job?

WhiteDust · 05/11/2018 20:55

Go and see how you do without all the stress and worry of 'planning'. You may find that you are actually more relaxed. If you find it's not for you or you're out of your depth, make your excuses & leave.

Nonotmenori · 05/11/2018 20:56

Hmm depends. If it's for a sales role and you need to do a swot analysis etc. You haven't given yourself enough time to know it inside out. D call in sick and buy yourself a few extra days.

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/11/2018 20:57

Do the most focused prep you can and keep the presentation simple so you can talk more. Then at the very worst it's interview practice.

AlexaC · 05/11/2018 21:02

When interviewing once, we had someone turn up and had completely missed the fact they had to deliver a presentation. He delivered an oral presentation (no slides or papers) and still got a job offer. Sometimes pressure can make you focus. I would still go if you’re interested in the job, all interview experience is good in my book.

kaytee87 · 05/11/2018 21:05

If you cancel then you won't get the job. If you turn up there's still a chance you will.

Hassled · 05/11/2018 21:09

Just go. You have no way of knowing how prepared the other candidates will be - just try to wing it. There's nothing to lose.

SmokeAndBone · 05/11/2018 21:10

Oh my, I guess I was BU.
I just don't want to waste their time when I should have prepared properly.
I am being negative.

Can Big Girl Pants work well as an interview outfit?
