To park in a p+c disabled space (courtesy, not B.B.)

I know IABU and I won’t do it really. But I have to go to the chemists and GP. I’ve got hypermobile EDS, and Asthma that’s really been aggravated by a chest infection and this freezing weather. My joints are seizing and I’m going to really struggle in the smaller spaces.
The nearest car park is M&S and they’ve got 16 disabled and 16 P&C.
Anyone got any helpful tips.
As stated I won’t park in them but I wish I could have a more accessible parking space!!
Rant over.

Arnoldthecat - I sincerely hope you get fined.

BishBoshBashBop · 05/11/2018 19:08

Just park. I have a disability but i dont have a blue badge. I use the disabled bays at supermarkets.

Well apply for one then and stop using BB spaces.

Penisbeakerismyfavethread · 05/11/2018 19:08

Moody I think they are courtesy spaces. So it’s okay? Particularly as Arnold is disabled

NotUmbongoUnchained · 05/11/2018 19:10

If you’re struggling to move and walk no decent person is going to mind you using a BB space. We had one for my brother and would have happily waited for a space or fish d another one if I saw you trying to get out of your car.

Footymum81 · 05/11/2018 19:11

My DStepSis has EDS and hypermobility and works but is entitled to a blue badge. It’s definitely worth looking into.

ProfessorMoody · 05/11/2018 19:12

No, it's not OK. No blue badge, no park. And they can fine, so the information is incorrect.

BishBoshBashBop · 05/11/2018 19:13

Disabled spaces are not a courtesy they are a legal requirement.

Second thread today. Same bloody arguement

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2018 19:15

You shouldn't. You need a blue badge to park in those spaces.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 05/11/2018 19:23

P & C are courtesy spaces so fine to park in them under your circumstances although you'll be told otherwise by perfectly fit and healthy parents
Disabled spaces are a legal requirment. So never, ever acceptable to park in them without a blue badge.

I think in the light of the other thread running at the moment, you are actually taking the piss, op. But just in case it's for real, please ignore Arnold's advice unless you want to end up heavily fined.

BlankTimes · 05/11/2018 19:28

Absolutely.

exWifebeginsat40 · 05/11/2018 19:30

the irony here is the grilling i have had for using my blue badge because i don’t ‘look disabled’ whilst people without badges feel absolutely ok about using a disabled space.

if you can’t manage parking because you are physically unable to, you should apply for a blue badge. if they turn you down, don’t use disabled spaces. it’s pretty simple, really.

BlankTimes · 05/11/2018 19:49

@exWifebeginsat40

You need some of these, I've seen them on some cars in the BB spaces, displaying a BB.

Penisbeakerismyfavethread · 05/11/2018 19:57

@PunkrockerGirl59 I’ve only just seen the thread.
I’m certainly not taking the piss, just bloody annoyed that where I live I don’t think I qualify for a B.B. but today when my disability is at a v bad point I could really do with one and wished there were a few bigger spaces about, or even on st parking so I can open the door fully Sad

OP posts:
Penisbeakerismyfavethread · 05/11/2018 19:59

Also getting confused between the p+c and B.B. re courtesy so apologies
I’ve said all along I won’t park in the disabled spot I just wish I could

If it was a supermarket car park I'd ask for their policy on it - is it blue badge only or is it for anyone who needs it due to a disability?

Blue badge spacrs are for blue badge holders. If there are spaces for others with disabilities who don't have badges/need extra space then they should be elsewhere.

Sirzy · 05/11/2018 20:34

If you need the extra space but don’t have a blue badge then use p and c spaces.

BlankTimes · 05/11/2018 20:45

"If it was a supermarket car park I'd ask for their policy on it - is it blue badge only or is it for anyone who needs it due to a disability?"

I'd read the signs in the car park at the Blue Badge spaces if I were you, they are quite clear that vehicles parked without a BB displayed will incur a fine. I've seen it happen.

Questions not for the OP as she doesn't park in BB spaces.

What is the attraction of Blue Badge spaces for people who don't have a Blue Badge?

Why do you think you are entitled to use one without having the disability assessment(s) that genuine Blue Badge holders have had to go through to have a Blue Badge?

What makes you so special that you think you have the right to park in their spaces?

Londongirl888 · 05/11/2018 20:53

BB spaces for BB holders. Use p&c if you are desperate and expect the wrath of those needing a p&c space.

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2018 20:55

Use p&c if you are desperate and expect the wrath of those needing a p&c space.

Expect wrath even though the op is clearly struggling with mobility at the moment?

Penisbeakerismyfavethread · 05/11/2018 20:56

To be fair blank, in response to your question “why do people feel they have a right to park in disabled bay?”
I assume it’s not feeling entitled but just desperation. I can’t get out when I’m ill unless I’ve got a big space.
I’m really lucky that a flare up is a couple of weeks tops 6-8 times a year.
If I lived like this forever then I might end up using a B.B. space.
I’m not saying it’s right but people sometimes find it hard to get B.B. Even when people are disabled xxx

Park in them. And get a BB assessment. I also have EDS hypermobility. I got a BB first, then as it got worse I applied for PIP and then asked for a reassessment as I was worse again. I now have a wheelchair that I use when I go out to the shops etc. I walk when I can but use the wheelchair when I need to. Thanks gentle hugs

PunkrockerGirl59 · 05/11/2018 20:59

You make no sense, it doesn't matter where you live. Do you seriously think that in some areas of the country "where I live" will deem you more disabled than in other areas? Blue badges are issued on need, not on where you live.
Apply for a bb, you may well be entitled to one. But it's never, ever ok to park in a disabled space without one.

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2018 21:01

They’re issued by local authorities so there can be regional variations.

BishBoshBashBop · 05/11/2018 21:01

Park in them. And get a BB assessment

Get the BB then park in them.

I do understand OP but when you are struggling and until you have a BB you aren't entitled to use the spaces. You could use P&C spaces.
