Following on from the savings and mortgage threads can I ask how much people have in their defined contribution pensions and age. I am 48 and have a pot valued at £225,000. Hoping to get it up to £400,000 by 60

£90k but I'm only 26, been paying in four years I think.

This is very impressive! One heck of an amazing pension scheme or a super amazing salary! Either way, well done!

So you've paid in over £20k a year (employer and employee combined). That's impressive so you're obviously on a very good salary.

Definitely the most impressive pension pot of all mentioned here, I'd say!

Dh has hit the tax limit on pension savings - from now on it costs him money to save. His employer gave an incredibly generous pension contribution and he took advantage of all of it. We still have a massive mortgage though. And we don’t believe that we will get a state pension - despite paying in, we are convinced it will start to be means tested in some way.

jeez - I'm 32, and have 5k saved. Surely those of you with such high pots must be higher earners?

Pibplob · 06/11/2018 11:21

I’m 39 and have £0. Just simply can’t affird to pay into a pension. Normal life is enough of a struggle financially. I guess I will be reliant on the state pension - whatever that will be. Or benefits. I’ve never received benefits before apart from child benefit and child tax credits but I guess I will be in the future. Mortgage will be paid off so will just be food and bills to pay for.

A lot of these pots are going to pay out a lot more than the average salary of £26k?

TristanDaCunha · 06/11/2018 14:58

Think there are some people telling porkies on this thread. I'm 22 with £890,700 in my pot. Really worried for the future ...

Thanks for replies. Such a mixed bag
