WIBU to park in a disabled space?

Ordinarily I wouldn't dream of it.

Our local supermarket closes off half the car park with barriers overnight to deter boy racers. It doesn't reopen until after 8am. ALL of the parent and child spaces are in the closed off side.

DS is still small enough to be in his car seat. In the past if I've arrived before 8am I've parked in a normal space but every time I've ended up with someone next to me, making it hard to get DS back in.

There is a row of 10 disabled spaces, all empty. WIBU to park in the furthest one from the shop?

Yes - you're not disabled. Park further away and you're less likely to get anyone park next to you.

Sirzy · 05/11/2018 07:15

Yes.

If you don’t have a blue badge you don’t park in a disabled parking space. No ifs, no buts, no maybes.

HardAsSnails · 05/11/2018 07:16

Yes, YWBU.

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2018 07:16

Yes. You are not disabled.

What disability do you think your baby gave you?

StarfishSandwich · 05/11/2018 07:16

It’s a tough one. I don’t think YABU really if it’s the only way you can safely access the shop and it does seem unlikely that all 10 spaces would be required before 8am. Have you asked the store manager what they reccomend you do?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 05/11/2018 07:16

Yes. YABU.

If I got there & there were no B.B. spaces I’d have to drive straight back home.

Alfie190 · 05/11/2018 07:19

Yep YABU. Supermarket will be quiet, park somewhere else.

NerrSnerr · 05/11/2018 07:19

Of course you'd be unreasonable. How would you get yourself in and out with your son in a car park without parent and child spaces?

RhiWrites · 05/11/2018 07:19

I’d rather you parked across two regular spaces than took up one accessible space.

Can you park next to a curb?

teachergirl2011 · 05/11/2018 07:20

Yes you are not disabled!!!

Oysterbabe · 05/11/2018 07:21

Yabu.

BathFullOfEels · 05/11/2018 07:21

How do you cope in car parks that don’t have PandC spaces. Surely you’re not taking the entire car seat out each time?

Danteinferno · 05/11/2018 07:21

Just park in an end space or next to a kerb? We have a newborn and 6 yr old and manage without P&C In Car parks

Returnofthesmileybar · 05/11/2018 07:21

Just park further away from the shop and walk

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2018 07:22

Reverse? Surely no one thinks it’s ok to park in a blue badge space with a child as a pass?

Booboostwo · 05/11/2018 07:22

Of course YABU.

Squeeze him in, use the other door, get a car seat that swivels, get a car with sliding doors...

BishBoshBashBop · 05/11/2018 07:22

Yes. The End.

EmUntitled · 05/11/2018 07:22

YABU
Park in an end space or one next to a path/trolley bay.

Or don't take the car seat out, put your son in one of those baby trolley seats.

AamdC · 05/11/2018 07:22

Why start thus in AIBU ?and yes YABU Hmm

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 05/11/2018 07:23

Only last week I saw a man on sticks having to walk across a car park because someone, like you, had parked in a disabled space, to get her child out, when he confronted her she said there were no P&S spaces so it was ok. He pointed out she had made him walk on sticks across the car park, she didn't give a damn.
People like you disgust me

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/11/2018 07:24

Of course you are being U

People seem to be able to cope without p&c parking when it suits them then lose all ability to park in a supermarket....

Shoxfordian · 05/11/2018 07:25

Yes because you're not disabled.
Obviously you're unreaosnable

tangoed2 · 05/11/2018 07:26

Can you park on the end, surely not every one of them spaces are taken before 8.

What do you do when you go somewhere and all the P&C spaces are full?

FairfaxAikman · 05/11/2018 07:27

Yeah I kinda know IABU but it's frustrating, so this is more of a rant.

All the end spaces are taken and it's not a huge car park when half of it is closed off so parking further out doesn't work (I would do this if all parent and child was full when the whole car park is open)

I've mentioned it to staff and they are going to feed back. (But she did tell me just to park in disabled, which I'm not going to do).

All they'd need to do is swap a couple of disabled with a couple of P&C - that way there's the same number of disabled spaces but there's a couple of P&C outside the barrier.

Ridiculous question
