Went out a few weeks ago with my friend.

Saw him last night and he said when I hugged him goodbye I got make up on his new t-shirt and he has washed it and it hasn’t come out.

He didn’t use stain remover Hmm

He is now demanding £25 off me to buy a replacement.

What do I do? Give him the money or just cut him out of my life?

To be fair he hugged you with good intentions. It’s not normal for there to be so much makeup that it easily transfers - did you smear your face against him? I can see why he’s annoyed. You should be more careful in future and offer to clean the shirt

areanyusernamesleft211 · 05/11/2018 06:39

He is being a knob. I wouldn’t dream of asking somewhat to compensate me for anything like that, it’s just life. Offer to pay half and then never see him again, I wouldn’t have any a friend that petty.

OliviaStabler · 05/11/2018 06:41

Delete and block. Job done.

Jent13c · 05/11/2018 06:43

Pay him the cash then never speak to him ever again. He sounds like the type of guy that likes to pay for exactly what he ate at restaurants. Hope that £25 was important!

Giantbanger · 05/11/2018 06:47

Why is it buy t shirt or cut out of life? Is there no middle ground? Like buy him a tub of vanish? And laugh and tell him to lighten up?

purpleline · 05/11/2018 06:48

I'd pay him and then ignore him.
He's being petty but quite honestly I'd be a bit annoyed too if my fried wore so much make up it ruined my shirt. I wouldn't ask for money but maybe it's not the first time...

Oysterbabe · 05/11/2018 06:53

I'd pay. If you damage someone's property you pay for it.

Like so many mumsnetters... Grin Grin

Blankscreen · 05/11/2018 07:08

I think the friendship is probably over anyway. If you don't pay him he will drop you, if yoy donoay you will drop him.

I do wonder if he had dropped a beer on your new suede shoes during the hug if you would be getting the same advice?

Maybe say can you try and get it out and see if it can be salvaged but if not I can't see a way forward.

SLL · 05/11/2018 07:16

Take the T-shirt from him, use some vanish on it and give it him back...

EK36 · 05/11/2018 07:22

Offer to wash it for him.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 05/11/2018 07:26

Justjoined - "fottfsofawygtfosm" stands for "fuck off to the far side of fuck and when you get there, fuck off some more".
Only in this case, it should be when HE gets there, of course.

I'd take it and clean it for him, then give it back. I certainly wouldn't cough up £25 for it.

MaryCraven · 05/11/2018 07:28

Buy him some stain devil. Gets out stains that have already been washed xx

ChocolateTearDrops · 05/11/2018 07:31

How much make up were you wearing?! Confused

YANBU, friends don’t behave in this stupid, petty way.

areanyusernamesleft211 · 05/11/2018 07:52

Blankscreen- if someone dropped beer on my shoes by accident, I certainly wouldn’t expect them to pay for them and would not accept if offered. happens.

The four stars I put before ‘happens’ mysteriously disappeared!

Bestseller · 05/11/2018 08:01

The lesson here with the t-shirt and the hat (or any other possession) is that if the value is such that you can't afford for it to be lost or damaged you can't afford it. If you're in a position where you're going to demand cash from your sister for a child's hat, then you you should have a bought a cheaper hat.

longwayoff · 05/11/2018 08:02

Pffffft!

buckeejit · 05/11/2018 08:07

@Jent13c there's nothing at all wrong with wanting to pay for what you've consumed, rather than splitting a bill, especially If others had considerably more, drunk alcohol etc.

As for the t shirt, I'd offer to try to clean it but mention that if it was the other way round you would have just shrugged it off as bad luck.

buckeejit · 05/11/2018 08:08

£35 on a child's hat is totally unnecessary! Was it a 'designer' hat?

SuchAToDo · 05/11/2018 08:09

Since you left the stain on it, why not as a Goodwill gesture offer to get the stain out (either you use a stain remover or have it dry cleaned)...

I'm with your friend on this one, he bought a new t shirt, and instead of hugging in a normal way you pressed your face into the material and got your makeup stained into his new T-shirt...he has a right to feel upset...it's new, and you caused it to be stained..

dontalltalkatonce · 05/11/2018 08:17

He's being a knob. 'No, I'm not paying. Use stain remover. Goodbye.'

WhoisyourDaddyandwhatdoeshedo · 05/11/2018 08:17

offer to pay for dry cleaning, or your to buy a replacement. do not give him the money, he probably needs it for something else.
