Cruise

First time posting..

I went on a 4 night cruise with the OH and my 3yo was looked after by my sister and best friend. My 3yo loved it, he was looked after, had days out etc. Actually wasn't happy to see me 😂
So, we then won a free cruise (loyalty from the casino lol)
The only ones avail on the dates they've given us are soon.
Our options are to not go out to have the same people look after 3yo for approx 10 nights as we have to fly to US.
My sister and friend are totally ok with it and he will be in nursery etc.
Am I being unreasonable to leave him for that long?? Is it selfish? We couldn't afford to take him.
I want to go but just a part of me feels awful but maybe that's just mum guilt
Thanks

He is quite young and appeared happy with your sister and friend. I’d go.

Workreturner · 04/11/2018 21:05

Could you ring them and see about swapping a 10 day US cruise

To a shorter Europe one whereby you could bring your son?

It shouldn’t be a problem because you’re suggesting a significantly less expensive prize

Ninjaginga · 04/11/2018 21:17

We tried that, unfortunately as it was a prize they only gave us a window of 6 months and there is no cruises up until may and it's expired then or we deffo would of done that. Just seems a waste to not go

I don't think YABU he'll be fine and seems like he had a good time, the only thing that doesn't sit right is that you get cruises for casino loyalty (surely that doesn't come cheap) but can't afford to take DS? If you just want a couple's holiday there's nothing wrong with that, I don't think a young child would get much out of a cruise anyway

Hellywelly10 · 04/11/2018 21:20

Go op, happy parents= happy child.

Fashionista101 · 04/11/2018 21:27

Deffs go! Once in a lifetime op

Heartofglass12345 · 04/11/2018 21:48

If he was happy and they are happy I would definitely go!!

bellsbuss · 04/11/2018 22:03

If he's happy then go

sonandhelpneeded · 04/11/2018 22:10

You're wanting to leave your 3 year old in one of his happy places, go on a freebie cruise and the come back totally relaxed and chilled!!!

And you think that YANBU!!!

Hell of course you're not ! Once in a lifetime free holiday, go!!! Bring back duty free for sister and mate!

Ninjaginga · 04/11/2018 22:26

Yes it didn't come cheap at the time as we had booked and planned the first cruise in advance and had saved for the spend we would use there and as my oh accumulated so many points from playing they have a free 2 person cruise. If we could afford he would be coming without a doubt but it just isn't an option right now 👍
But after talking it through with them both and you guys I think we will go on it as we don't really do much just us 2 and LO will enjoy it being spoilt for a week and copious amounts of chocolate and attention 😂
Just needed someone else's perspective thank you!

So how much did he lose to get a free trip and how much will he lose in the next one?

I met a guy on sa us cruise ship, he cruised for free all year as he was such a big gambler. He said he worked out the daily cost and that was how much he was prepared to lose. He had a detailed notebook with winnings and loss in.

He started the day by putting hundreds of dollars through the 25c fountains to get the rolled notes out. That took a couple of hours and usually made him a few dollars. Then the tables opened.

Ninjaginga · 05/11/2018 17:57

He lost around 4K but then on the last night he made 7k off $250. He gets too carried away but only has blow outs on holiday now 🤪
Good job he won cos he then went on too purchase some gorgeous art work with it lol.
There was some man who was on his 3rd free cruise that year too crazy!

Can’t afford to take your child on holiday with you but you spent the 7k ‘winnings’ (bearing in mind how much he lost) on art?! Really?!

Ninjaginga · 11/11/2018 22:17

Lol. Anyway judgy parents 😂 cruise is booked childcare taken care of. Can't wait to spend shit loads in the casino and have fun 😘

I'd be VERY concerned at the gambling habit to be honest!

Rather than buying expensive artwork I'd be putting it away to cover future losses.

Gambling at that level is a huge issue IMO.
