...to ask how you make sure your dog is happy if you work 9-5?

We're wondering about having a dog to join our family. However, we work 9-5 and the kids aren't old enough to come home alone straight after school.

We're not sure about having a dog if we're going to be out of the house for long stretches, but naturally some people do have dogs and have similar working patterns to us.

How do you manage, and what advice would you give? I'm also totally okay with advice like 'don't do it' if that's the main consensus, because I want to be realistic. We only want a dog if it will be content!

I read all these posts and scratch my head.

My dog disappears upstairs every night at about 10pm and won't move again until 2 or 3pm the next afternoon.
Regardless of my whereabouts.
I have to literally pull her duvet off her and physically shove her to get her moving.
I don't hold out much hope for the dog walker when I go back to work.

Earthmover are you confusing your dog with your teenager?

Lovingbenidorm · 10/01/2019 11:44

The way to tell the difference is that the dog is the hairy, smelly one that demands feeding, whines to go out and...........
Ah.......I can see how it could be confusing

But now works too busy to do that so we've cleared out out understairs storage

Holy shit that's terrible. At least give the poor dog the run of the house.

I work 8-3.30 with an hour lunch break which I have to come and let her out and feed her. She gets a good walk before and after work and we make sure she has toys and everything she needs at home. She also has full roam of the house. It works for us. I think If I would of worked 9-5 we wouldn't of got her as it's not fair. My dad used to work longer hours but dog would go with him and loved sleeping in his van x
