Help! Do you like the name Fraser or Wren? His first name is Fraser and middle name Wren so he’s Fraser Wren. I’ve been wondering if going by his middle name Wren might be a better choice. Let me know what you think. Many thanks in advance.

As with the others like Fraiser but Wren sound odd

Mamaluv2 · 04/11/2018 02:37

This was amazingly helpful. Thank you! I had no idea so many people thought Wren was a girl name. Anyways, I’m not sure why but it feels good to hear that some of you like Fraser. Thank you so much everyone. I appreciate your kindness.

Wren is a bird, never heard of it being used as a human name, it is awful. Fraser is a thousand times better although still a bit odd. But if you want to, up to you.

SuperstarDJ · 04/11/2018 04:01

I too associate Wren as being a girl’s name. Regardless of that, Fraser Wren doesn’t flow or sound right together imo.

I like Fraser though.

There is a baby names section on MN - you might get more suggestions if you post there.

I hear Wren, I think Stimpy. Sorry.

As an aside, you do know there’s a whole Baby Names topic don’t you OP?

MaryShelley1818 · 04/11/2018 04:44

Fraser is lovely...Wren is awful

plaidlife · 04/11/2018 14:30

Fraser is not in the slightest bit odd, it is merely Scottish.

Pickupthephone · 04/11/2018 14:49

Never heard of Wren as a name for a human, but it instinctively seems feminine - perhaps I remember learning in history that women who were in the naval service during the war were called the Wrens?

Also if you must name a kid after a bird surely better not to name then after a super common small brown bird. Call them ‘Flamingo’ or ‘Albatross’ or something.

Fraser’s lovely though. Very Scottish.

I love the name Wren, and have had it on my name list for a couple of years, however, I wanted it for a girl, and had a boy. I'm not sure If use it for as boy, but might go for Ren.

BumDisease · 04/11/2018 14:55

" Fraser is a thousand times better although still a bit odd."

On what planet is Fraser "odd"?

Birdsgottafly · 04/11/2018 14:59

"I hear Wren, I think Stimpy".

Or Wrenegrade. Or little Birdie.

He is going to get the piss ripped out of him, all of his life if you call him Wren. Its a Girls name.

Fraser is nice, stick with that.

BackforGood · 04/11/2018 15:09

Really don't like wren - unless you are talking about the bird for some reason, but not for a human.
I've only come across it on MN, and then it was mentioned for a girl.

Fraser isn't my personal taste, but is a lovely strong Scottish name so MUCH better than just using a random noun.

MrsStrowman · 04/11/2018 21:00

@steff13 Fraser is a cleaner harsher fricative sound in the middle FrayZuh , Frasier is softer Frayshure. Trust me the former is my surname and no one mispronounced it until the TV show Frasier

BlackberryandNettle · 04/11/2018 21:05

Fraser is a better choice by a mile. A wren is a frail, pretty little bird - not a name most people would choose for their son and opposite in style to Fraser. Wren is usually picked as a girl's name, like Willow.
