Recently moved to a town having been in a more rural location for a number of years. Our back garden is maybe 40-50metres long...others in the area generally much smaller, it's densely populated, residential, less than half a mile to train station, town centre etc.

The amount of fireworks going off is ludicrous!! We've had several land in the back garden with some force (partly burying themselves in the ground), one has landed on the roof outside my toddlers' window and the inside of our house smells of bonfire/explosives. Wtf? Is that even safe somewhere so built up? Why do that? Just go to a display, which will be cheaper, better and most likely contribute to a charitable cause HmmConfused

The thing is, it isn't 'just once a year' in a lot of places. Where I am it started last weekend and will go on intermittently until January. It's awful.

A girl in my school got a firework thrown at her and she had to be rushed to hospital and was scarred for life. I’ve always hated them. And I hate sparklers too.

I’ve got two pubs both ends of my roads and when one of the displays finally stopped the other end begun 🤬 That wasn’t even enough though as some idiots started letting some off in the street afterwards Hmm

Oh lighten up and stop moaning. An empty firework case landed in your garden, so what. Move back to the countryside, otherwise accept some edge in your life. We had garden fireworks as a child and I bloody loved it.

And presumably your toddler’s indoors and not sat on the roof outside his window?

Yeah, who cares about the animals - only some of them are scared shirtless and its only a small amount who are tortured and killed with them each year.
It's only a moderate fire risk, just mere thousands are treated for firework related injuries in hospital each year.
They only kill people a little bit.

And the noise? Well people have lived through two world wars, what's a 150 decibel explosion among neighbours.

What's most important is that my little Princess can see a few substandard flashes in my back garden for £50.

Everyone should get a grip!

I think they need banning, there really is no need.

@Rebecca36 I had fireworks when I was a child too, but in my day (decades ago) they were mostly ground fireworks and rockets were silent, apart from the quiet whistling sound when they first took off. The joy of them was (and still should be) watching the coloured stars and pretty patterns they make, there's no need at all for the deafening, continuous "gunshot" noises they make nowadays.

I find it really weird that it's ok for people to buy explosives in a supermarket (I grew up somewhere where they weren't available to the general public). Since having children, we've had a few years where friends have had parties, and I've always been really on edge in case something goes wrong (and all those young children running around with sparklers 😱).

This week I was in Westfield, having some dinner, and all of a sudden, there were some enormous explosions. The very busy, loud restaurant went silent as everyone looked at each other, wondering if there'd been a bomb and we needed to start running. Oh, no, just fireworks 😮 (couldn't see them, could just her and feel the explosions). Sad that first thought was a bomb though.

After some people have pointed out the rather obvious possibilities of causing fires and injuries, I find it bemusing how some posters came to comment about how we should all stop moaning. Did you pay attention at all? "Moaning" is somewhat minimising the issue that you clearly want to ignore, why bother even saying anything?

Oh, well that’s ok then. Just lob explosives at my roof, it’s fine there’s no one up there.
