To be concerned about neighbour’s lack of firework safety

Our neighbours (family with 2 primary age children) are stood outside their house, setting off fireworks in the street. Wouldn’t bother me, except they are literally just placing the fireworks on the road about 6-8ft in front of them, with nothing to hold them in place. There’s literally nothing to stop them falling over and throwing fireworks into their children’s faces... or a passer-by’s. Nothing to stop any cars passing by and getting a firework in their face, or worse underneath the car (depending which side of the road they are on). Why are some people so stupid?! AIBU to be annoyed?

YANBU. I am vehemently against fireworks being sold to the public. It should be organised events only.

John4703 · 03/11/2018 19:18

It sounds like how I and my friends, used to set of fireworks in the 1950s. I think people should know better these days and be more sensible.

RedneckStumpy · 03/11/2018 19:18

It depends, in the street is probably fairly ok, fireworks are cardboard so only have a very low explosive capacity, they don’t produce a shockwave or shrapnel. They burn hot and fast so have a limited incendiary likelihood.

It looks more dangerous than it is, it’s more annoying than anything else.

daphine2004 · 03/11/2018 19:19

Would the police be able to sort it out?

HelenaDove · 03/11/2018 19:30

our stupid neighbours are letting them off Very built up area All flats and car parks.

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 03/11/2018 19:33

RedneckStumpy I’m not worried about damage, except to innocent people’s faces!

Is it worth logging with 101? Grin

Hmm
FrazzyAndFrumpled · 03/11/2018 19:41

Shock that is shocking!!

OP posts:
canihaveanap · 03/11/2018 19:42

I wouldn't log with 101

They won't do anything about it tonight and all you will do is push up your insurance premiums in your area by reporting a non incident.

Is it dangerous? Yes
Do you need police? No!

Talk to them about your concerns like an adult.
"That's not actually a very safe way to set off fireworks, try it like this"

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 03/11/2018 19:46

I definitely won’t be phoning the police! Or speaking to them, as you say they are adults so they don’t need me to tell them how to read the safety instructions.

re phone box................bunch of cunts.

Henryismyfriend · 03/11/2018 20:14

Phone box 😯

Those are 'adults' who would have been able to buy them legally to do that.
This is why they need better restrictions on sales.

As for your neighbors OP, I don't think there's a lot you can do, if they've chosen to ignore the safety instructions on the package then doubtful they'll listen to anyone else.

jimmyhill · 03/11/2018 20:14

Meh, not your circus, not your monkeys getting their faces blown off

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 03/11/2018 20:32

It’s mainly the children i was worried about. It’s one thing to be an idiot and put yourself in danger, but having your young kids stood right next to you while you do it is just ... there are no words!

They’ve stopped now anyway so my anxiety levels are back to normal Smile

OP posts:
RTFT · 03/11/2018 20:42

Anyone saying this isn't dangerous is as stupid as the idiots letting off the fireworks. Sadly op there's not much you can do, they don't sound like the type of people to take sensible advice on board

chillpizza · 03/11/2018 20:45

You can’t educate everyone. I had a firework fly under my chair, the host moved the display however someone else then actually got hit. They where an idiot with no idea of safety.
