Crocheting

Inatightsqueeze · 03/11/2018 15:26

So DH and I are going to see bohemian rhapsody at the cinema tonight and I want to take my crocheting. In my defence it is to help me not eat my body weight in pop corn which is what I would do. I also get fidgety and do at home if I don't have anything to do.
DH says it's just too weird and I should just pay attention to the film
So I give it up to the judgement of MN who is right me or him?

If you were sitting in my eye line at the cinema and your hands were constantly moving, I would have to politely ask you to stop as I would find it very distracting. I do have issues though!

mmgirish · 03/11/2018 15:38

Does it make any noise? Is so, YABU.

Inatightsqueeze · 03/11/2018 15:40

Doesn't make any noise and movement is minimal. I fidget more if I don't have something to do.

Can you make a crocheted Freddie during the film?

The movie is fab btw.

Inatightsqueeze · 03/11/2018 15:44

I wish my skills were that good x

I would find it very annoying if you were fidgeting or crocheting in my eye line and it would ruin the film for me.

pasturesgreen · 03/11/2018 15:48

Surely it will be too dark in the cinema to crochet? I personally wouldn't, more because I'd be wary of what other people would think than anything else I was stared at by a sniggering couple in a GP waiting room while I did cross stitch.

Inatightsqueeze · 03/11/2018 15:52

The pattern is simple and I can do it without looking. Don't be put off by people sniggering at you, they're just jealous (and rude) that they have to put up with year old magazines.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 03/11/2018 15:53

Will you be able to see to do it?

I think if you can do it in the dark you're a genius then no problem.

Inatightsqueeze · 03/11/2018 15:54

I'm just concerned About annoying other people, don't want to upset others

I reckon if you can get on the end of an aisle next to your DH then the only person it would possibly annoy would be him. Is it because he's worried other people will think you're weird? I crochet out and about quite often, people do comment but I've only ever had positive comments about it even if they do call it knitting

neurotransmittens · 03/11/2018 16:03

Wow, I have some serious crochet envy.
If you work quietly and you won't be disturbing anyone (their view or knocking elbows) then I would take it with you.
It's an enjoyable film

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 03/11/2018 16:37

I did that on a date once. My date wasn't impressed tbh

I don't think it annoys anyone else... can't see/hear and unlikely to notice

I do see why your husband might like you to be present enough to romantically hold his hand

bridgetreilly · 03/11/2018 16:39

Do it. People do plenty of things in the cinema that are much more distracting: talking, using their phone, eating loudly...

BackforGood · 03/11/2018 16:46

I'm with bridget - this wouldn't bother me, there are FAR more annoying things go on in the cinema.

I too, am impressed with your crocheting skills that you can crochet at all in the dark.

dh, OTOH, would totally refuse to sit anywhere near me Grin

kikibo · 03/11/2018 20:31

I had a teacher who used to knit during film showings in school. Annoyed those sitting around her (at the end of the row) no end. Though that was because of the noise of ghe needles.

I wouldn't be bothered by someone crocheting. Doesn't make any noise really. And no-one will be looking at your hands.

I find it weird that in the day and age of chewing pop corn, rustling chocolate wrappers and cans of fizz, if not the light of smartphones flashing from time to time, people would dare to get annoyed about someone crocheting???

Happysaurus · 03/11/2018 20:38

I have taken my crocheting to the cinema before so can’t see why not :)

TheChickenOfTruth · 03/11/2018 20:51

As someone who crochets often, I would probably take some yarn and a hook and crochet some strips to keep my hands busy but not continue my project - I just think that the counting would distract me from the film and I'd hate to come back out in the light and realise I'd missed a stitch at some point and have to undo it. :S
