Mould in my entrance

I'm currently unable to go home as my rented flat has a mould problem. It's in the shared main entrance and the hallway to my kitchen, and I have a 5 week old baby. The builder says the repairs will take a week however he's been to this particular flat before and the landlord refuses to deal with the mould in the entrance as it doesn't affect anyone. AIBU to think that it can affect my asthma and want it fixed? Or am I being ridiculous and demanding?

Have you tried putting natural yoghurt or a clove of garlic on it?

liverpoolnana · 03/11/2018 14:16

Lostinshoebiz, you beat me to it. I was going to suggest Canestan.

IAmRubbishAtDIY · 03/11/2018 14:54

Do you know any professional men who can take a look?

 ha ha ha

In all seriousness no you are not being ridiculous, ask your landlord to fix it. But see the link below about responsibility for damp:

Damn, I even did a basic euphemism check! Grin
I do but they're useless, took them 3 months to actually bother reporting the issues even when I pestered them!

All you PP are completely unhelpful. Smile

Dettol Mould and Mildew remover sprayed on the problem areas if the mould is caused by damp surfaces should get rid of the Mould. You spray it on the whole stained area. It is very strong smelling you will need to leave the doors open and shut your flat doors to keep the smell out. Or spray it on and go out for the day (still keep your flat shut as you obviously would when you are out).

minimum I think there's definitely rising damp in my hallway, not sure if it's the same in my entrance though! The contractor said it needed to be dipped or something, and it would take at least a week to do the work and an extra week to clear the fumes, plus the time it takes for the landlady to approve the work

But tinty wouldn't the problem just resurface?

I’m so sorry Gillian but your posts just get funnier and funnier.

MrsBodger · 03/11/2018 15:12

Sorry Jillian

Hubblebubbletripletrouble · 03/11/2018 15:14

Hahahahaha. Amazing. Do your air it regularly? Damp is often caused my excessive moisture Grin

Tinty · 03/11/2018 15:17

Yes it does reappear but if the builder is going to do some work, won't it be sorted out?

I thought you meant that some of the work will be done but not all of it.

I just meant that if the builder is fixing the problem but the landlord wont do the front entrance then you could put the Mould and Mildew remover in the front entrance and keep it clear of Mould.

I used to use it in a bathroom because in the winter all the water from having showers used to cause a bit of damp on the bathroom wall, because it was too cold to have windows open constantly.

I used to just spray on the walls and leave the window open and shut the bathroom door. Then I would go out for the day, when I came home all the walls would be clear of Mould. I used to spray it on and leave it as a preventative measure also.

JillianHoltzmann · 04/11/2018 02:53

Sorry for confusion, he's fixing the damp in the hallway, not in the entrance. Just that one room.

I have disposable dehumidifiers everywjere but they never have water in, so it's probably not excessive water!

I got the "mould in the entrance" but what've I said now?! Grin
