At what age would you /did you give your DC an iPhone?

DD1 (9) keeps saying she wants an iPhone for her tenth birthday. She and DD2 share an iPad, which they use to play games and go onto You-Tube. She wants to be able to send messages to friends and make new ones. (She does struggle to make friends.)

She’s quite emotionally immature, so I have my reservations. It’s also not as if she needs one, as she never goes out or comes home indefinitely.

I have been thinking of giving her my iPhone when I upgrade, and her tenth birthday is a possibility. I have said to her that she needs to show me that she's a big enough girl to be trusted with an iPhone today, and then we'll consider it.

DD has a dumb phone because I won't let her walk to school or back without one. She's 11 and in yr6.

DS1 is 13 and Y8 and had an iPhone of DH's when he was Y5, so around 10/11 as he'd begun to walk to and from school with friends. Our phone contracts renew fairly often through his business so DS1 now has an iPhone 7plus that was mine, he's looked after them all though and never been caught using it inappropriately.

DS2 is 7 and has mentioned it saying he'd like one from Santa but there's more chance of Santa bringing me Luther in a bow tie and tight pantaloons than him getting a phone at this age. I think it's when they need it for independence to begin extending rather than just because they want one.
