To have dressed my children as Chucky and the bride for Halloween?

I've clearly been the big talk between parents... had a couple of parents go "oh god you didn't?" And I had to ask what it was about. There was a Halloween disco type think for the kids at school. I have a 2 yo (obvs not at school but siblings welcome) and a 5 year old. The 2 year old didn't ask what he wanted to be and surprisingly dd didn't really know, she kept umming and ahhring. Took her to supermarket to look at costumes and she didn't like any so I kind of came up with the idea.

WIBU???!

I think it's refreshing that your DD didn't want to be a princess or a fairy! If my DC arent bothered about costume ideas I definiately take over. My LO was beetlejuice last year and he was 3 LMAO
Folk need to lighten up a bit.

LexieLulu · 02/11/2018 21:55

My daughter was Chucky last year, she was about 18months old 😂

I loved it

LexieLulu · 02/11/2018 21:56

Even scarier I dressed my DS up as Donald trump...

AtSea1979 · 02/11/2018 22:00

single was she not just meant to be a black cat?

Singlenotsingle · 02/11/2018 22:06

atsea I don't think so. Someone did comment why the DM hadn't just dressed her as a cat or a witch or something

SundayGirls · 02/11/2018 22:13

I'm not horrified, but Chucky is an evil violent sadistic murderous character from a horror film. I just wouldn't want to see my 2yo dressed to represent or be associated with that character.

This is shocking imo

Pinkprincess1978 · 02/11/2018 22:24

Two of my friends dressed their children as Chucky this year. I don't see the problem.

Butterymuffin · 02/11/2018 22:25

It's still half term in some places, right?

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 02/11/2018 22:28

If there’s one place in Scotland I’d expect that to happen, it’s Larkhall. Worrying that she’s a nursery nurse though.

Pooleschoolschoice · 02/11/2018 22:31

Wow Id find that kind of shocking and surprised its something the mumsnet demographic would find okay!!! Even where I live it's little pumpkins and cats and skeletons!!

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 02/11/2018 22:41

Chucky The Scary Doll is a perfectly reasonable concept for children for Halloween. It’s like Harley Quinn who has an 18 certificate character and a PG friendly Duplo character.

MsNowtyBach · 02/11/2018 22:44

I don't believe that any Mumsnetter would ever do this.

JeanPagett · 02/11/2018 22:47

I'd be more shocked at Harley Quinn than Chucky tbh. She's a v. sexual character as well as being a sadistic murderer. I don't really want little girls running around in hot pants and fishnets ...

afrikat · 02/11/2018 22:51

I think it's brilliant. A friend dressed her 2 year old up as chucky and I was v jealous (mine refuse all costumes, it's v disappointing )

LaurieMarlow · 02/11/2018 22:52

I don't think there's anything funny or clever about this. I can't think why anyone would want their young child associated with such a character.

Bunchofdaffodils · 02/11/2018 22:58

It takes all sorts. But I would not!

NotSoThinLizzy · 02/11/2018 23:04

My DD was pennywise from it and her brother was the wee boy in the yellow jacket. She's never seen the film but it was the talk of the school

Vampiratequeen · 02/11/2018 23:04

I think it's genius.

ileclerc · 02/11/2018 23:28

We had 3 mini Donald trumps yesterday, it was funny.

Crack on op!

FantasticHarryPotter · 02/11/2018 23:29

Yes.

Anything the child can't watch would be off limits.

So spooky pumpkin, ghost, witch etc fine.

But if a child asks to watch what they are based on - they can't, can they?

5 and 2 year old were witches here.

DonaldDucksTowel · 02/11/2018 23:30

No one has really said why it's so unacceptable? Confused

MyDcAreMarvel · 02/11/2018 23:31

It’s unaccepatble because a two year old boy was brutally murdered after children watched a Chucky film.

LOL7 · 02/11/2018 23:32

My son was Chucky when he was 18 months old. He's three now and was Pennywise this year- he absolutely loved being 'a scary clown' 😂

FantasticHarryPotter · 02/11/2018 23:38

@DonaldDucksTowel Why dress them up as something that would be too frightening or disturbing for them to watch?

Ghost? Scooby doo.

Many vampire cartoons.

Skeletons, witches etc too - so kids can easily know about these characters and want to dress as them.

But a character from a film they can't watch and if they did would likely deeply disturb them? It just seem tacky and reeks of parent trying to be edgy.
