To want to complain

Ok so I'm on benefits and have been for a while since my daughters dad left me and I became a lone parent. We are very civil and I've never once stopped him from seeing his daughter.

He moved back to his family home and it wasn't really suitable for DD to be visiting there so I allow him to come to my house everyday. He has recently lost his job so is here more often. He never, ever stays over. He comes for a couple of hours on a morning and again in the afternoon. Whatever he does in between is his business and this works very well for us. He's saw other people and no one has had an issue. We are just parents, no other feelings for each other involved.

I then receive a letter from DWP saying I need a compliance meeting. All is fine as I have nothing to hide. Turns out someone has accused me of benefit fraud because I have DD dad coming daily to see her.

Interview is done, Woman is very harsh and quite rude but I understand they have to be incase I'm lying. I write a statement, sign it and interview is done. She then however, started being really inappropriate. Asking questions that had absolutely nothing to do with her claiming "it was off the record". Asking if I had feelings for him, if I sleep with him because I must get lonely as a single parent. Asking where his mum is because i only mentioned his dad. (Him mum died years ago). Asking if I was on contraception. Telling me that I could be prosecuted on little evidence as I will be watched by covert officers and they will look into absolutely everything (fine because like I say I have nothing to hide). Asked why I allow him to come to my house because when she's had relationships it's ended there and then and is it appropriate to have him coming everyday.

She just seemed really really rude. Am I just being over sensitive or did she cross the line once the interview had finished. I'm not worried in the slightest, he hasn't lived with me for years. It just didn't work as a relationship. But I just felt like the questions she asked after the interview was non of her business.

Complain when I told my advisor I was pregnant she asked me if I'm disappointed and what would the father be doing to support me? Would I be closing my claim and living of him etc. Really rude

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/11/2018 20:51

Why are you making excused for her rudeness. Whether you're lying or not she should remain professional.
I personally can't see what is wro g with a father coming to see his daughter. However I don't make the rules. If you don't MInd me asking how did they find out about these visits
I could be wrong but o would have thought they weren't allowed to ask personal intrusive questions.

Aww I was told someone has accused me of having a man living with me.* Not sure who as they obviously won't tell me so either people have seen him coming regularly and put 2 and 2 together and came up with 7 or someone who is rather spiteful is just trying to cause trouble. Either way she was very rude and quite nasty.*

Do complain. It’s becoming very common in the civil service. Some of them seem to have a weird power trip. I was talking to someone from the HMRC a few months ago who blatantly lied.this is a department who used to go by the principle of doing whatever they could to help people pay their taxes.

CandyCreeper · 02/11/2018 21:11

I did honestly make me feel like shit. she said she wanted hos details to find out why he wasnt paying maintenance! (have other children with him but left him when pregnant) When I complained they said she had no right and claiming maintenance wasnt a criteria for IS so she had no right to his details. Some on them are power mad!

This is disgusting. You are being a fantastic mother by keeping a civil relationship with your ex which works brilliantly for your child and are getting punished for it.

Please complain and take recordings/a witness if you have to deal with them again

Years ago I did a temp job audio typing these interviews for the DWP fraud teams. I am.not surprised at all. Some were truly vile. Racist and sexist. Often very cruel.

Insist you want a keyworker or lawyer with you next time. Also make sure your ex has not got any post going to your home.

Complain about her.
