I have to do some university coursework tonight.

I HAVE to do it, I'm already 2 weeks behind.

But, I don't want to do it

Someone please give me a kick up the backside to get it done!
I need some motivation!

Here you go: metaphorical boot up bum.

Why are you doing this course? What do you want from it?

Chuffingchuff · 02/11/2018 18:08

Just think how great It will feel when it's done and not hanging over your head

CallMeQuirky · 02/11/2018 18:17

@Thisreallyisafarce thank you!

Im doing it for career progression mainly, stick of being stuck in the same old admin roles but need the qualifications to progress further.

@Chuffingchuff that's true. It's still so much easier to wallow in bed with a tub of Ben and Jerry's once DD is in bed though.

Thisreallyisafarce · 02/11/2018 18:19

And if you don't do it tonight, does that affect your chances of getting out of the admin role you dislike?

BlueThesaurusRex · 02/11/2018 18:19

Get off MN and get it bloody done! The relief you feel after will be worth it Grin

CallMeQuirky · 02/11/2018 18:23

@Thisreallyisafarce without a doubt.
Can you be my personal cheerleader? I need someone logical in my life.
(I'll pay with gin and cheese...)

@BlueThesaurusRex I know. I feel like a teenager again... it's much harder to moan at yourself to do homework though!

I've decided that I'll start at 7 and I won't stop until at least 10; now just need some tips to ensure I stay on track!

MissMudskipper · 02/11/2018 18:24

If you don't get it done now it's still going to be there waiting for you.......do it....do it with wine if it makes you feel better!

Bishalisha · 02/11/2018 18:25

We can kick each other up the bum because I have 3 more professional exams to go before I’m finished and I’m spending far too much time dicking around on my phone. Have you got a plan of action to tackle tonight work?

Elllicam · 02/11/2018 18:25

First tip, get it out/get computer on and look at it now. How many words does it have to be? What’s it about? Split it into chunks if possible and do a bit each hour.

SingaSong12 · 02/11/2018 18:27

Why are you waiting to 7? Are there things you actually need to do or is it a delaying tactic?

Mishappening · 02/11/2018 18:33

Do some of it - set yourself a target to get to a certain place in it tonight; and another target for tomorrow etc.

Break it down into manageable chunks.

CallMeQuirky · 02/11/2018 18:34

@MissMudskipper I have a big glass of red waiting for me, don't know if it's wise to drink it while writing though..

@Bishalisha someone in the same boat!! No plan yet, I think my best bet is to get through the core tasks at least. If I have time left over I'll start on the follow-up.
What's your plan?

@Elllicam I have to write 1000 words tonight at least, 5000 due next week and I've already written 2000.
The topic is 'The implications of being an informal carer within a family setting.' - so quite easy to write about.

@SingaSong12 I've got to wait until DD is in bed, then I'm cracking on.

Can anyone help with regards to referencing? I am struggling hugely (haven't been in education for a while.)

Thisreallyisafarce · 02/11/2018 18:39

CallMeQuirky

Yup!

Oxford or Harvard referencing. Online guides to both are pretty easily available.

Stoppedat1 · 02/11/2018 18:39

Just tell yourself you're doing half an hour. Usually that's enough to get me started and once I'm into it I can usually keep going.

I can help if it's Harvard referencing. I know nothing about the other systems though

Bishalisha · 02/11/2018 18:42

@Bishalisha someone in the same boat!! No plan yet, I think my best bet is to get through the core tasks at least. If I have time left over I'll start on the follow-up.
What's your plan

I have to tackle this one completely differently to my previous ones So am currently reading the text a few times from 2 different books before writing down key notes and acrynons before dipping Into the questions and answers sections. Then will take more notes as undoubtedly my answers will all be wrong and trying again!

Hurleygirl123 · 02/11/2018 18:48

Can you split it into hour/45 min chunks then have a 15 min break? I hate a big task looming in front of me but can manage it if it's split up lol.. Good luck btw Grin

catlovingdoctor · 02/11/2018 18:52

If you’re really struggling for motivation, which is quite common with a big task that seems overwhelming, it’s really helpful to make yourself literally do only one minute or two minutes of work, just to get started, and then once you’ve begun you can often find yourself saying “oh this isn’t so bad, I’ll just do a bit more...”

yogima · 02/11/2018 18:54

Might be too late but you could get things ready before you put your daughter to bed. Then one of the first hurdles is over.

Greyponcho · 02/11/2018 19:03

Eat the ugliest frog first (do the thing you least want to do first, you’ll feel better once it’s done)

shiningstar2 · 02/11/2018 19:07

I always found getting started the hardest part. Get the books out and get going. Once you've started its always easier to keep going.. Reward yourself with some down time tomorrow.

Moonflower12 · 02/11/2018 19:38

@Greyponcho
I was going to say'swallow that frog!'
Obviously from the same idea.

Elllicam · 02/11/2018 19:59

How are you getting on after your first hour? I love ref works for referencing.
