To expect more from BA?

I recently flew with BA and unfortunately our luggage didn't arrive. The ground staff informed us that it would arrive the following evening (30hours later). Not a huge issue for my husband and I but we were also travelling with our two young children (both under 2 years old) which did make it rather inconvenient as there is a certain amount of 'stuff' that they need. We were staying at a villa so had use of a washing machine but no hotel to call upon for loan of amenities.

At the airport we were told that we were staying outside of their courier delivery area by around 5km. We were also told that as our bags new arrival time was Sunday evening it wouldn't be operating anyway. So we naturally decided to make the 110km round trip to collect the bag ourselves.

We were staying fairly remotely so on arrival had to travel quite some distance to three different shops to buy a few essentials to see us through. £111 worth of toiletries and more suitable clothes in total for 4 people which I think isn't excessive. With two over tired children it wasn't a huge amount of fun.

BA compensated us for our essential items but will not cover the 45€ fuel cost. They say that where they are unable to deliver delayed bags they will compensate travel costs but as the airport we flew to does in fact have a courier service that we are not eligible for this. But we were told that we were outside of the catchment? BA have fobbed me off and say that their decision is final, will not change and they will not communicate further. AIBU to be pissed off?

Free drinks and snacks??? I fly regularly from where I live in Europe back to London. With BA you have to pay to check in a suitcase and can’t even get a free drink - they have M & S food and drinks to purchase. Contrast that with the country’s national carrier, who give you a 23kg checked baggage allowance, unlimited free drinks and a hot meal. Oh and they are half the price of BA.

I only flew with them twice and neither time went well. Once from Dublin to London when I was going to a funeral, back in the days when it was free to check in a bag. They managed to lose my bag, and I had no chance to go shopping so had to go to the funeral wearing the bright red trousers I'd travelled in.

Second time from Singapore to London, the screen on my seat was broken so no entertainment on a 14 hour flight. They offered to swap my seat with the child of a woman who was on standby. He was about 7 and I obviously wasn't going to separate him from his mum, and have to sit next to her! When getting off the plane they gave me a bottle of wine as an apology, I said I was connecting to Dublin and wouldn't be allowed bring it though to security as it's over 100ml and I was told that as a domestic(!) flight it would be fine. Of course it wasn't, and the bottle of wine was taken from me.

Would never choose to fly with them.

I’m currently sitting in America waiting to catc a flight home with BA in an hours time... I’m feeling a bit nervous now about my luggage!! (Had to buy an extra luggage allowance due to ds’s clothes spend over here! Shock they were fine flying out here though. Fingers crossed all is fine in a hours time!! And tomorrow morning when we land!

They should have sent your bag in a taxi, wtaf?

You’d think, but instead they pass them onto a courier company who take as long as they fancy to process them, then load as many as they can onto a van which is driven for 16 hours + by a worker on minimum wage who drop them off all around the country.

@19lottie82
That's crap service. I have had my bags delayed quite often as I often do a two leg journey within Europe as no direct flight to where I go so have done the journey through various hubs and Lufthansa, KLM, Austrian and Air France have all put my case in a taxi when it arrived in the country.
Yep BA are really not a good airline.

19lottie82 · 03/11/2018 23:33

RayRay I know they’re just shocking. The worst part was, when my bag missed the connecting flight...... if they’d been honest about how long it could potentially take, I just would have driven back to the airport to pick up myself!

RayRayBidet · 04/11/2018 22:06

When we do this journey it's always my sodding bag that gets missed DH and kids stuff always arrives.. I always have a change of clothes and toothbrush etc with me now.
Definitely going to consciously avoid BA now
