AIBU?

Anyone been referred to NMC?

Can't give many details obviously, but it was quite a minor issue. I was scapegoated and dismissed and then sent a letter to say I was being referred to the NMC.

That was over a month ago and I haven't heard anything.

Can I assume it's not happening? AIBU to stop telling people when I apply for jobs, since I have no confirmation that it's actually really going ahead?

Does anyone know what may be going on?

I don't mean to sound so dismissive. I'm absolutely devastated and I feel my life is over. But I'm stuck in limbo and I've got bills to pay!

Have you spoken to the NMC yet to find out what’s going on? They’re not exactly known for being quick with processing things.

If you were dismissed from your last role surely you would have to say that? Your previous employers would be giving references?

I was a bit worried that if I did that, and it hadn't been referred, I'm going to end up basically referring myself?

Are you in a union at all? You can also get a lawyer involved. There are lawyers who do this type of work

I've told everyone I've applied for that I was dismissed, but they all want to know the outcome of the NMC first. But I don't even know if it's really been referred.

I can't afford to eat right now, I can't pay a lawyer. The union stopped representing me once I resigned.

Thing is no one can tell you here what’s going on. You need to speak the the NMC. And I’m pretty sure my last job application asked if I had ever been referred to them, so in order to submit an honest answer you’d have to find out. Or face the chance of possibly landing yourself in an even worse situation.
Sounds bloody stressful. Hope it works out

Thanks. I am being honest. But it means I can't do anything. And that feels pretty shit if it turns out they never referred it.

I would ring the NMC and ask them directly. They should be able to tell you if a referral has been received.

I know somebody that was and it was over a year before her case was heard.
My Mum was referred to the hcpc (which is similar to the nmc) in 2015 and her case is still ongoing.
A month doesn't mean anything. You need to ring them.

I'm just a bit worried that if I call, they'll ask for more detail and then start an investigation even if there isn't already one!

That’s not how it works, they have to receive a referral, from you, a HCP or member of the public.
So you questioning if a referral had been made wouldn’t make them investigate anything.

You need to contact them. It’s the only way you will know.

Outside perspective: whatever you did should be investigated. Getting dismissed is no mean feat from a health care role so there must have been safety concerns. If you want to salvage a career demonstrate honesty and integrity and call the NMC.

It's worrying to be honest that you sound so dismissive about the whole thing. If it was bad enough to warrant losing your job it can't really have been a "minor issue" can it?

Sorry if this is really obvious but have you checked your status on your online NMC information (where we revalidate)

You say you resigned but also you were dismissed?
If you were dismissed where is your union? As an NHS manager i found the RCN is hugely supportive even when people are obviously doing stuff wrong and need help so where are they in all of this? Or other union?

You said the union stopped representing you after you were dismissed. No normal union would do that. Your subscription not your employment is relevant.

I'm not trying to be dismissive. This is purely a practical thread. I've been to absolute hell. It's a minor issue because it's all embroiled massively in me making allegations against the Trust. I didn't even do what they said I did but they created evidence.

Part of me feels they won't refer for fear all these things will be put out there.

I resigned and my resignation was accepted. That's when the union said they couldn't represent further as I had resigned. They dismissed me on the last day of my notice.

Did you resign or were you dismissed? Why is your Union no longer representing you? Something doesn’t add up. You need to contact the NMC to find out if they are investigating you.

Sorry. Cross post but I’m still no clearer tbh.

So you resigned. They accepted your resignation but then your were dismissed - as in gross misconduct or something

Allthewaves · 01/11/2018 22:12

Did you contact the union again once they issued you a dismissal notice

Report
emptynestsyndrome · 01/11/2018 22:13

No...do you think they would represent again now I was dismissed not resigned?
