To serve M&S mashed potato?!

Obviously this is a lighthearted AIBU! Having another couple for dinner Saturday night. One of whom is what he terms a “very plain eater”. As a result am making steak/veggies/pepper sauce for main course. Would I be unreasonable to serve M&S mash rather than peeling/ boiling/mashing my own? Partner won’t be home from work until half hour before the guests are due so can’t be of help. I accept it’s lazy but would it look like I’ve served a bad substitute rather than the homemade stuff which has the potential not to be great?!

I buy frozen now and I save money as I would waste potatoes because I cba making them 😂. A frozen bag can do me about 2-3 family meals. Best discovery ever!

Morrison's frozen mash is great! Such a time saver and we can't tell the difference? Especially good for cottage pie, as it spreads easily 😊

Not BU at all. M&S Ultimate mash is delicious!

PawPawNoodle · 01/11/2018 23:14

I love homemade mash but only if I've made it - I've done the whole shebang just for myself on many occasions because I am a mash addict.

Since I can't be there to do it, I'd say the M&S one is fine but it is gluey! Whoever said Tesco finest gets my vote.

Blimey. You don’t peel the buggers for mash. You microwave them, cut them in two and put them through the ricer. It takes seconds.

Thanks so much for all your messages of support! I will now happily load the supermarket trolley up with a few packages and not feel guilty at all!!

I like to create some fake kitchen mess, hide all the packets in the outside bin, look slightly exhausted yet welcoming, and ta-daaaa! from the kitchen. You know it makes sense.

If you like Duchesse potatoes, they do have one advantage; you can make them several hours in advance. Then you only have to reheat and brown them in the oven before serving.

GO FOR IT!!

I used to be a mashed potato snob, always made my own, turned my nose up at frozen or fresh stuff.

Went for a roast dinner at my mums one night and the mash was amazing! Turns out it was the frozen stuff!

I know use frozen or fresh regularly.

Still do my own roast potatoes tho...

Isn't shop bought mash full of sawdust and toe nails?
