Vaginal stitches getting more painful :(

WaterWellies · 31/10/2018 21:57

Sorry for posting in AIBU for traffic but not getting much response in post natal.

9 days PP. I have stitches which are pretty small. Tiny little tear but I tore upwards as opposed to downwards. Had to have stitches in my urethra which makes it sore to pee. The person doing the stitches told me they'd be healed and painless in around two days... the past couple of days I've had pain that gets worse when I stand or sit. When I stand I get a gradual pain that builds up that's like a pressure in my clitoris. Like there is blood pooling there as I stand up. Like something is going to burst. The same when I go from standing to sitting. The pain eases after a minute or so...

Does this sound normal? I'm seeing midwife on Friday who will have a look but it's driving me a bit mad!

I have baby blues and am really quite down and i am sure this is contributing...

It could be normal, it’s a very sensitive area around the urethra so it can be tender as things nit back together. It could be that now things are heeling together you have a stitch that could do with having the not snipped off so it makes everything feel tight and uncomfortable. I would be inclined to get it seen tomorrow by a midwife if you can, because if it’s not ‘normal’ it needs dealing with sooner rather than later.

The knot snipped

Popfan · 31/10/2018 22:04

My stitches got infected and I went to the doctors who gave me antibiotics. It was really painful!

mussie · 31/10/2018 22:06

Agreed, leave a message on the midwife's answerphone tonight to get someone to come tomorrow instead. If it's a brewing infection, best to catch it as early as possible.

Kokapetl · 31/10/2018 22:11

It sounds a lot like what happened when mine got infected. Antibiotics sorted it out, didn't need an operation or anything and I HAD left it longer than I should! Best to get them checked soon though.

newmumwithquestions · 31/10/2018 22:19

Sorry OP but it sounds exactly like mine did when they got infected. Get it checked ASAP. It’s not unusual to get an infection and it can usually be sorted very easily but the earlier caught the better.

Pebblespony · 31/10/2018 22:21

I had a stitch that kind of tightened. When it finally gave, the relief was amazing. But it was more like a pinching pain than what you're describing.

Pebblespony · 31/10/2018 22:22

I was on antibiotics too as I got an infection as well.

Frankswife87 · 31/10/2018 22:23

You poor thing! It sounds like you may have an infection, try and see a nurse Flowers

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 31/10/2018 22:25

Definitely get it checked out OP. Just wanted to say - try not to worry, as PPs have said, if it's infected it can be sorted out fairly simply with antibiotics. I remember how scared I felt when my stitches were painful and I hated that 'blood pooling' feeling - which for me turned out to just be normal swelling which gradually eased - I just wanted to post some support. Thanks

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/10/2018 22:28

Definitely speak to your midwife or GP - I had 3 courses of antibiotics before eventually being referred back to the hospital where they cauterised the wound with silver nitrate and that worked almost overnight. It really affected me badly being in pain and definitely had an adverse effect on my mental well-being. Please don't understand in silence.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/10/2018 22:32

Oh and the cauterisation sounds way worse than it actually was. It was absolutely painless as it's just a substance sort of smeared over the wound, and not - as I thought it would be - a hot iron. The worst thing about it was a kind of sludgy-grey discharge for a day or so.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 31/10/2018 22:33

*Suffer in silence - I have no idea why that autocorrected to understand Confused

Cheby · 31/10/2018 22:36

I’d get checked for a potential infection too, but just to say I had pain in my stitches that got much worse on standing for a good while after I gave birth and it wasn’t an infection. Like an aching feeling. I think it was just general pressure/discomfort. It takes time to heel fully.

WaterWellies · 01/11/2018 03:15

Thanks all. They're only very small stitches, but they're so painful. Will get them checked out! It's such a weird kind of pain...

It def sounds like they’re infected to me, your poor pet. Get seen ASAP

OrgyOfSpookiness · 01/11/2018 05:08

As others have said it's either they've unfortunately become infected or on the other hand they could have tightened due to healing quickly. I had stitches with my Ds due to having grazes and they were soooo painful until they came out. I opted to not have them this time and I had no issues.

Definitely call the midwife lovely because there's nothing worse than being in pain and juggling a newborn x

ButDoYouAvocado · 01/11/2018 08:05

I think yoir question has already been answered well by PPs but i just wanted to address your comment re them hurting when you wee. When i had mine i was advised to pour water over them as i had a wee. I found it easier to use the shower head (and i really dont care who thinks thats disgusting, it bloody hurts, do what you need to do)

Hope you feel better soon

WaterWellies · 01/11/2018 08:07

Thanks everyone, and thanks @ButDoYouAvocado - I don't think it's disgusting. Anything that offers you relief!
