Son's nursery has been awarded Inadequate by Ofsted - help?!

Hello,

My sons nursery has been awarded Inadequate after a recent Ofsted inspection. I know this isn't the be-all and end-all for a nursery, but I am very worried now.

My son is 4 years old, and seems to enjoy going, and I had no concerns for his safety before this.

What worries me is that every point on the Ofsted report is either inadequate or requires improvement.
"Effectiveness of leadership & Management" and "Personal development, behaviour and welfare" are inadequate.
"Quality of Teaching, learning and Assessment" and "Outcomes for children" are both requires improvement.

Also the nursery have not notified parents of the findings, I just happened to go onto the Ofsted website so was "lucky" enough to found out.

I have requested a meeting with the nursery manager, to discuss the situation, but I don't know what I should be doing. Is it too much to take my son out of the nursery? I feel sick at sending my son to a nursery that the Ofsted report states "they fail to recognise the potential risk of wires hanging in the baby room and unsafe flooring in the garden". I just want to leave work and go and pick up my son.

I'd be really grateful for some advice
Thanks

A nursery my DC used to attend was graded inadequate. Initially it was due to teaching and staff development issues but after a reinspection also included safeguarding issues.
We ended up leaving because 1 month after the second inspection, I witnessed staff doing the same thing they had failed the inspection on (not their fault, it was a staffing numbers issue). I felt management weren't taking the problem seriously.
When was the inspection? Have they taken the opportunity to address the issues and when is the re-inspection date?

Talk to the nursery to find out their plan

I know of one preschool who didn’t get a great ofsted report. Drilling down turned out because the children didn’t use technology. It was a forest school

So you really need to talk to nursery to find out if there’s a real issue or just an ofsted tick box one

It depends what you are hoping to achieve by having a meeting with the manager - they will be aware of their shortcomings from the report so what exactly are you wanting to tell them?

I can understand if you want reassurance and information about what the nursery is doing to improve - one would think/hope that they would be addressing this publicly but at the same time I get that they wouldn’t want to publicise such a report to invested parents!

Inadequate is probably better than requires improvement in a way because it means that the things brought up in the report will need to be addressed immediately rather than just plod on and make improvements just before the next inspection since, I assume, they’ll be inspected again pretty soon and will need to have shown they have acted?

Is your child happy where they are? Is there another local nursery that he could feasibly move to?

Depends

Something ha are just down to record keeping
Something's are bad management
Some stuff will now have money chucked at it and they have time scale to implement stuff

E.g. Staff first aid not up to date - they arrange training and keep certificates
Outcomes for children could be record keeping - they do the job just don't prove they do the job

I wouldn't be overly concerned if you've been happy before - things can change quickly
