I'd cook those, I'd peel them first though and perhaps take the stalks out too if they look a bit squishy.

TeddyIsaHe · 30/10/2018 15:26

The black spots are just the dirt they’re grown in. Mushrooms are a fungus already! So yes, absolutely cook them and not give it a second though.

Oblomov18 · 30/10/2018 15:27

Just dirt and they are totally fine.
I've never peeled a mushroom and I'm not about to start now.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 30/10/2018 15:28

More than fine, give them a wipe with a damp cloth to get off the mud. Sometimes I peel them if they look particularly manky.

Ignore best before dates on fruit and veg, if it’s not mouldy it’s fine!

ConciseandNice · 30/10/2018 15:28

Eat them. They’re fine!

Todamhottoday · 30/10/2018 15:28

I have just cooked with chestnut mushrooms that were almost a week out of date.

If they dont smell or are racid, use them they look fine just wash the dirt off (black spots????)

drained1 · 30/10/2018 15:29

Thank you....dh is so bloody paranoid about anything that's past a best before date but I thought I best check with these incase I did accidentally poison him

Ignore best before dates on fruit and veg Mushrooms are not either of those.

artemisdubois · 30/10/2018 15:30

They look fine to me - I only throw mushrooms out if they're slimy. Soft and/or a bit battered is absolutely fine.

SLL · 30/10/2018 15:32

They look perfect, peel them, chop the end off the stalk and they are good to go! As Teddy said, the black spots are soil which would be there when fresh to, so no worries. Enjoy!

Crinkle77 · 30/10/2018 15:32

There's nothing wrong with them and don't bother peeling. You just need to use your common sense with veg. Don't bother with the best before date. That's simply a guide for the shop staff. I have used well mankier mushrooms in the past. If things have started to go slimy then I would bin but other than that go ahead.
