To think the bank should have told me first?

For many years now I've had an overdraft of 1k with my bank.
I checked my account this morning and the overdraft is zero!
Am I right in thinking that they are meant to give notice before they take it away?
The only thing that's changed is I paid in a cheque from a small windfall I had last week.

@ThatPurpleCat

Oh well if you can do without an overdraft, then do. Smile

As a pp said, it's so easy to think 'hmmmm got an extra grand here! Woo hoo!' And then before you know it, you are £970 into the overdraft, you have only thirty quid left, you are always in debt, and you struggle to recover. You don't have to be dumb or weak for this to happen. We're all human.

An overdraft is a blessing and a curse.

Congratulations on your 10K windfall!!! Look after it, and enjoy it. Smile

Thanks pippa it was PPI from an old loan (from a different bank) I suspect the banks are ganging up on me as paybackGrin

Little update for those interested nobody
The complaints dept are looking into what happened. I've said that due to the cheque I paid in I no longer need the overdraft but the man agreed that had the cheque not been paid in I would have been in trouble with a few direct debits due and the 1k suddenly removed.
They are looking into what happened and will give me answers in the next few days.

Maybe it’s automatically removed once your account hits £x and you were told that, but didn’t really absorb it thinking but it wouldn’t affect you, or you would be fine if it did.

Be interesting to see what they say.

ThatPurpleCat · 31/10/2018 22:03

witches I asked the guy if they took the overdraft away because of the large cheque I paid in and he said no that shouldn't happen. He agreed I should have been given 30 days notice. He gave me his extension number and set up a password, he means businessGrin
I've decided I'm not going to have an overdraft now, but I still want to know why they did it.

Is it Lloyds because recently on my online accounts I was asked to opt in to certain thjngs I already had on my account and if I didn't within x days it woukd be removed

ThatPurpleCat · 01/11/2018 09:18

jackie yes it was! but I've never seen any of that on my online accounts, and surely the man on the phone would have mentioned if this was the case?

Half the time the real people don't actually know what is "messaged" to customers online.

UPDATE for anyone interested. I had a missed call from my 'complaints manager' so i called back. He has looked into my case and said the overdraft was taken away due to human error, he cannot offer any other explanation. He said it was due for review this month and he has reinstated it even tho I don't want it now
I have been given £75 compensation + another £12 for my phone usage

Glad you got it sorted out. It's a shame "human error" is such an unsatisfying answer for you!

Binglebong · 02/11/2018 16:19

Great news! Well done ok.

ThatPurpleCat · 02/11/2018 19:59

That’s a good outcome.

It doesn’t hurt to have credit available in case you need it.
