AIBU to question my friends surgery choice?

My friend who has what I feel is pretty low self esteem, who is actually lovely, fabulous and bloody funny has decided on getting her lips done.

She’s early 20s and has lovely, normal lips meaning there’s actually nothing wrong with her lips at all. She’s so beautiful and energetic, and her personality radiates for miles! Her smile is fantastic, has beautiful teeth and just lovely all round. There are things that let me know and believe about her lack of self esteem, it’s not just assumption.

I feel like surgery is so normal these days, and if it was back just a few years ago when it was still accessible but not many people got it our age she probably wouldn’t get them done... I don’t feel like she dislikes her lips, but would like to be apart of the latest trend?

Am I just a bitch? I haven’t said anything to her other than “are you sure this is what you want to do ”

She’s going to a beauty parlour :( she couldn’t even answer me if the person was a qualified nurse and she’s paying £90 for 1ml.

It really just feels so so wrong to me. I’ve really tried to keep my mouth shut as she will do it anyway and I don’t want to come across like a bitch who doesn’t want her to feel good about herself because seriously I do, I honestly do.

But I feel like this isn’t the right decision it’s worrying how many girls my age and younger have had surgery.

What I’m asking really because I know it’s none of my business, but surgery this young? When nothing’s wrong per say?

Sorry for the Novel x

@Likeshyt, I spotted you commented on my thread, thank you for your lovely comment, I have fillers in my after pics, only half a ml though Smile

CaptainCabinets · 29/10/2018 21:49

They don’t last. I had them in December 2016 and they were gone by the next May. I wouldn’t go to a beautician, though. I had mine done by a dentist.

I have TINY natural lips and the fillers just plumped them out a little and gave my face some balance. I loved them and my confidence improved as a result. I’d say let your friend make her own decisions as it’s not really your business at the end of the day.

Jimjamjooney · 29/10/2018 21:59

It can go horrendously wrong even when injected by a doctor, no way in hell would I let a beautician do them. Even having a nurse do them is riskier than a doctor as doctors can fully manage adverse reactions and give the correct treatment themselves (this is NOT me saying Dr’s do the most aesthetically pleasing job however). I’m not affiliated with them in anyway, but check out the consultant clinic on instagram for good work and the corrections they do for people.

Maybe frame it from a safety point of view!

captain they don’t for some but have lasting effects on others I don’t have particularly voluptuous lips, at all Infact. And there was a time two years ago I considered it, but I just worked on my self image more mentally. It’s none of my business now but it will be when she’s sick of her life at me and I’m putting her back together again 😂😂

Though it is the filler, it’s actually more so I wanted to know if I was Unreasonable or of others feel the same way and my main concerns are

  1. where she’s getting it done
  2. how quickly she’s decided
  3. the fact if it goes wrong, or she doesn’t like it it will have a detrimental effect on her MH
  4. the fact it is a massive fad at the moment people are doing it to fit in not to help their self esteem or self image

But your right, it’s not my place. And as always I’ll support her whether she got a cock tattooed on her forehead.

haircut lovely post :) it’s different when done right isn’t it!

It sounds from you thread that perhaps she is getting it done not because she wants to change her lips as such but she has low self esteem and is hoping this will help?

Yanbu to be worried about her, ultimately she will do what she wants to do but you can voice your concerns. I know plenty of people did with me.

I hope it goes well for her, tell her to start with half a ml and see how she gets on.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 29/10/2018 22:16

I think people are ridiculous for getting any of this stuff done. You've only got to watch Botched to see how often it goes wrong and what a mess people make of themselves.

Namechanger55555 · 29/10/2018 22:25

Well my sister had her lips filled 0.5ml for £170 and they look exactly the same as before...Shock

DBML · 29/10/2018 22:25

She sounds old enough to make her own mistakes. You've asked if she's sure...I'd let her get on with it now.

AlexaAmbidextra · 30/10/2018 05:03

If she’s only paying £90 I can’t imagine that this is being done by a reputable practitioner. I certainly wouldn’t let a beautician near my face with a needle.
