To not go to DP’s birthday dinner?

DP (soon to be DH) is having a small family dinner at his parent’s house next weekend for his birthday.

Sister in law is pregnant again, they already have a DC. I’m feeling a bit sensitive about babies at the moment as I would love one but it’s not happening at the moment for me! Argh! All in all I’m feeling a bit delicate at the moment and a bit down.

DP is very laid back and doesn’t mind at all if I don’t go. But AIBU for not going?

Yes sorry YWBU

You will see babies everywhere.Suggest you do pull yourself together. I have had several miscarriages and also nearly died. I am afraid, such is life.

Probably depends if you've been trying for ages or not.

Tbh, if someone was about to get married, it probably wouldn't occur to me that they'd been ttc for long enough for other pregnancies to be a problem.

tillytrotter1 · 29/10/2018 14:39

If you don't go how will this impact on your future relationship with his family? As others have said, mention to those who need to know.

We had friends to lunch who had had a stillbirth a few weeks later and had to tell them I was pregnant again, I felt terrible but they were great.

You are being very selfish if you don't go. I understand that you're upset but not everything is about you.

Bananasinpyjamas11 · 29/10/2018 14:44

I’m really sorry, not being able to get pregnant sounds so tough. I get your feelings.

However I do think that you need to go.

I think being around pregnant people is going to be something you need to adjust to and learn to handle. If anyone says anything all you need say it what you say here - would love one but its not happening for me at the moment. Enough Info but not too much.

I had not long been told I wouldn't have kids or be unlikely to conceive naturally (and for me IVF a no no) when one of my good friend and close work colleagues announced her pregnancy. The hardest thing I had to do was go and see her in the hospital with her baby and be super pleased for her when I just wanted to cry. It was about 7 yrs before I was pregnant with my first.

So I would say - be brave and go

i had to go to my best friend's DS's first bday party while waiting to start IVF...it was very difficult and I had to force myself to stay calm and cheery, but now I look back and I'm glad I went. She knew what I was going through and so appreciated me being there. Would do it again every time.

Yes you are....

I think you need to learn to cope around pregnant women much as it might be difficult currently.

And this isn't any woman, it's your DP's sister. It would look very strange if you weren't there TBQH.
