To worry about next doors dog

We moved into new house in June. Noticed that the dog next door (think it’s a black lab) was rarely in the house, always in the garden. Has a small shelter, doesn’t seem big enough for his size.

Garden is always full of faeces, next door clean it up about once a week. We can hear the dog whining several times a day. Neighbours are rarely in, they have a couple of young children.

I have never seen the dog be taken on a walk, but I do work part time so I may just miss it being taken out.

Tonight the temps have dropped to about 2 degrees here. The dog is still outside and whining. Neighbours aren’t in.

I’ve never had a dog, only cats so I’m
Probably not in a position to judge. Just feel sorry for the dog being out there alone and cold.

Worth a call to RSPCA

Pumpkintopf · 28/10/2018 21:42

Agree, give the RSPCA a call.

ShmooBooMoo · 28/10/2018 21:45

Yes, call them. In the meantime, could you throw something - even scraps - over the fence for him to eat? It may take the edge off the cold if he has something in his stomach, poor thing :(

Jenda · 28/10/2018 21:53

Definitely ring. Your neighbours won't necessarily know it's you. Poor dog

MrsMoggy · 28/10/2018 21:54

It doesn’t look malnourished, it looks in good health. Just is outside a lot, and the poo issue. Sometimes it stinks in our garden because of the poo in theirs.

I avoid speaking to them as the day we moved in they had a go about a tree in our garden, we don’t own the house it’s rented. They are strange characters

The RSPCA are useless. They’ll ask if it has a shelter and if it has water and if it’s yes to both then they won’t do anything else .
I know from experience,sadly

CaptSkippy · 28/10/2018 22:01

Labs are not really suitable dogs to just keep outside all the time. Plus it needs adequate shelter, which it does not seem to be the case. Letting a dog wonder around in it's own feaces is also neglectful

chumbal · 28/10/2018 22:04

Call RSPCA.

emma2939 · 28/10/2018 22:05

Agree with pp about rspca being useless with this sort of thing, if they are fed and watered they won’t bother doing anything. Next door to me has two dogs, same as you OP garden full of faeces but our neighbours don’t bother cleaning it and instead just mow lawn over it (yuck!) it smells so much in summer and they are out 24 hours a day, I felt so sorry for them last year with snow and ice, and in the baking hot weather, they don’t walk them either, so bloody cruel but have tried and gotten nowhere unfortunately.

WithAFaeryHandInHand · 28/10/2018 22:06

Yeah, I’d phone rspca to report that.

WithAFaeryHandInHand · 28/10/2018 22:07

X post. That’s horrible that rspca can’t / won’t do anything about this sort of thing. People can be such dicks about pets. I think it should be made really, really difficult to buy a pet. It’s too easy now.

Thatstheendofmytether · 28/10/2018 22:08

I can not believe the rspca let animals be kept like that, it's disgusting!

MrsMoggy · 28/10/2018 22:10

This is what concerns me, I have seen a few times on here that the rspca won’t be bothered if it has water and shelter. I can only see the grassed area of their garden, not the patio, so I can’t see if it has water or not.

I’ve just got home after being out a couple of hours and their car is back and I can’t hear whining. It seems that they leave the dog outside whenever they aren’t in, but it’s also outside when I get up at work at 6am when they are in

I still think you should report them. You don't know if it's hot water and given the temperature.

Poor thing Sad
