Double storey extension - how bad will the disruption be?

As above, have 3 children, including a 2 yo and an older child with severe autism and a learning disability. Excuse my naivety but does anyone have any experience of the level of hideousness of the disruption? Am thinking that moving house might be easier, though we would likely have to get another detached house due to the level of noise of our disabled child 🤔

Middlingly hideous - that entire side of the house will be out of action for some of the duration, how long depends on the interconnects between extension and existing rooms. The dust from all the work will be all over everything else if you don't seal the doors/corridors. Noise. People.

If your disabled child has trouble with change... you've got hard work ahead of you either way. At least with moving it'll be a one off, and there won't be weeks/months of work noises and strange people traipsing around.

My neighbours had a one room single storey and a bit of refurb inside which took 6 months - was a PITA for them and the whole street! Sil had double storey 4 room ext and had to move out due to over running into cold weather - was not ideal with a new baby.

Prepare yourself for the worse . I probably had worse case . We moved out for supposed to be a month ended up being 9 weeks . Because it was the bedrooms extended we had to move out. It was very stressful but now I have a much better and lovely home . So worth it yes but is it easier to move probably yes .

Just be prepared for the dust and the toddler launching himself at and bit of rubble and patch of dirt, I say this from experience we started or building work the first week of the school hols we are currently waiting for them to come back to replace the window they broke when fitting it, one they forgot to order and a carpet they burnt when welding oh and the conservatory they haven’t started ( and we hired these as we know them and work it great they are just so in demand they are doing a number of jobs at once).
