My nose seriously changed since having first baby 10 months ago it doesn’t seem to be going back to normal... it’s a lot bigger and wider although I am about ten pounds away from pre baby weight but not overweight

OP posts:
BaronessBomburst · 28/10/2018 01:19

My sense of smell went up to that of a bloodhound and never went back. My nose itself is unchanged.

Littlemissindifferent · 28/10/2018 01:27

I haven’t noticed a change in nose shape as you described but I used to get sinusitis and then after I had my first child I never got it again.

fessmess · 28/10/2018 01:33

WTAF. This is mental. I have never heard of noses or feet growing in pregnancy.

foxyliz26 · 28/10/2018 01:42

Obviouslynotobvious
Mine was the same ,,after having my daughter , luckily a violent client who consulted me and didn't like the legal advice, punched me on the Dose

CIC ,and referral to ENT specialist ( whose Divorce I handled ) , had a Rhinoplasty , job fixed , have a nicer nose than before

Nithead · 28/10/2018 01:49

It happened to me in pregnancy. Six years ago. It has not gone back and isn't going to. People are usually polite and say you're mad but I put on Facebook an old pic saying how I missed my old nose and quite a few people then said they could see what I meant. If I had the money for a nose job I'd have done it already

steff13 · 28/10/2018 01:54

My feet grew, but not my nose. I have heard of it, though. Do people not read What to Expect When You're Expecting anymore?

MrsCatE · 28/10/2018 01:59

It is a thing. Happened to my friend during her first pregnancy and was noticeable. Never went back to previous size / shape.

SusieQ5604 · 28/10/2018 01:06

My sister's nose got wider and then shrank back down to regular size

AjasLipstick · 28/10/2018 01:10

Mine returned to normal after about a year. It was always very small and so the swelling really showed up.

ScottCheggJnr · 28/10/2018 02:18

Is your name Pinnochio? (sorry)

EvaHarknessRose · 28/10/2018 02:28

From a psychological point of view, try not to overfocus on it - the more you check on whether it is different, the more unhappy you might be with it (same as if we overfocus on any body part) - so try to look at your whole face or body in the mirror, check out how gorgeous you are and move on. There’s evidence on this thread that other people really don’t notice it until it’s pointed out to them with before and after pics. So, along with the stretch marks, body changes etc that pregnancy and birth brings, accept this change as part and parcel and enjoy your lovely baby.

Rainbunny · 28/10/2018 02:49

"This is apparently normal: Nose swelling can be due to increased estrogen levels, which helps blood flow to the mucous membranes and plumps up your nose as a result. (It shrinks back to its original size, though!)"

It's a real thing! I learned something new today!

MarcieBluebell · 28/10/2018 03:34

Mine is bigger. Never had an issue with my nose before but my nostrils are huge now.

MrsRachel85 · 28/10/2018 03:49

My nose got wider in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Back to normal after a few weeks.

joiningmum · 28/10/2018 04:11

bumstums my sense of smell did the same. I get nauseated often by smells now that I would never have noticed before, it's quite extreme.

DaysDragonBy · 28/10/2018 04:13

My feet got bigger, I was already a 42 and now can't find any nice shoes Sad

Snomade · 28/10/2018 04:20

I have friend who this happened to. The weird thing is that we were all talking about it once and she doesn't think it has happened to her!
We obviously didn't tell her. But I think people are sometimes oblivious to changes on their own faces that happen very gradually.
Just recently I myself have been wondering where my lovely face has gone! At some point it melted south and I only just noticed I think Grin

Pyracantha1 · 28/10/2018 04:28

I'm so glad you raised this topic because since the both of both my kids I noticed a change in my nose shape. It definitely has become bigger and wider. I just couldn't understand why that would happen after having babies.

Unfortunately it never went back to its original shape. However I try not to think about it much. It is what it is now!

PhilODox · 28/10/2018 08:54

My feet grew, about three quarters of size, but annoyingly into a size that's hard to find shoes that fit (no-one seems to do half sizes these days!)

My nose changed internally, I think. I used to have terrible sinusitis, but after my third pregnancy, never really suffered with it, so maybe some tubes inside widened and prevented infection occurring?

BonfiresOfInsanity · 29/10/2018 12:13

My nose didn't change shape but my sense of smell went mad when I got pregnant, everything was overpowering an, while it calmed down a little after pregnancy, it's still very sensitive to smells.

The thing that did change when I was pregnant was my hair colour. I went from blonde to brown. watched the roots grow through a completely different colour. Confused

ShesABelter · 29/10/2018 12:14

Yeah mine got wider but it's back to normal.

JosiePosie89 · 08/09/2025 22:18

Hi there,
It doesn’t seem likely that you have this from your post, it can be normal to experience nose growth during pregnancy
That said I want to mention an illness called acromegaly. It is caused by excessive growth hormone produced in the pituitary gland.
Acromegaly can cause a wide range of symptoms, which tend to develop very slowly over time.
Early symptoms include:

  • swollen hands and feet – you may notice a change in your ring or shoe size
  • tiredness and difficulty sleeping, and sometimes sleep apnea.
  • gradual changes in your facial features, such as your brow, lower jaw and nose getting larger, or your teeth becoming more widely spaced
  • numbness and weakness in your hands, caused by a compressed nerve.
  • periods becoming irregular
  • fatigue
  • aching joints
If you have these symptoms you want to see an endocrinologist and have your IGF1 levels checked. It’s probably not this. Acromegaly is a rare disease. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. It’s worth checking if you have any concerns. The earlier it is caught the more likely it is to be curable!
