I have bought eighteen bulbs and used one (they were only selling them in big bags at the local so have spent £2 bloody 50) What recipes do you have that need a shed load of garlic??

I know it’s not really an AIBU but posting for traffic....or aibu to have so much flipping garlic....

Do you have a food processor? You could blitz loads and make up some garlic butters, freeze in ice cube trays. Garlic mayo, garlic infused oil. Even chopped garlic by itself freezes well.
Garlic chicken is nice too. Garlic is the best, I’m sure you’ll use it up.

LoniceraJaponica · 27/10/2018 20:14

Chicken with 40 cloves of garlic

John4703 · 27/10/2018 20:15

I use lots of garlic and rend to buy in bulk, peel it, chop it and freeze it. It is so good to have it ready when needed. (I also chop and freeze chillies)

RayRayBidet · 27/10/2018 20:16

Tsatsiki

ginghambox · 27/10/2018 20:16

Add it to all the mushrooms and aubergines you can find , mix well and throw the mixture in the bin where it belongs.

user1981287 · 27/10/2018 20:16

Just keep it until you need it. It will last. I have 50 bulbs from the garden stored in a dark cupboard

ShotsFired · 27/10/2018 20:16

Thirding advice to freeze it.

Although I would make one of the strongest stinkiest garlic breads with a load of it first.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 27/10/2018 20:17

This is nice and uses a whole bulb to infuse flavour then you throw it out before serving

Roast them with root vegetables! Their pungent 'garlic' smell\taste changes when they are roasted!

Blanchedupetitpois · 27/10/2018 20:17

Peel a few cloves and stick them in a Camembert then bake in the oven for 20 mins til melted then scoop out and slather on bread.

Dlux · 27/10/2018 20:19

Can you smoke it? No idea how but delicious
You could also roast and make a paste to keep???

Dlux · 27/10/2018 20:19

@Blanchedupetitpois 🤤🤤🤤🤤

Uniquack · 27/10/2018 20:22

You could probably use all your garlic for this recipe Grin:

Stuffed Camel

1 whole camel, medium size
1 whole lamb, large size
20 whole chickens, medium size
60 eggs
12 kilos rice
2 kilos pine nuts
2 kilos almonds
1 kilo pistachio nuts
110 gallons water
5 pounds black pepper
Salt to taste

Skin, trim and clean camel (once you get over the hump), lamb and chicken. Boil until tender. Cook rice until fluffy. Fry nuts until brown and mix with rice. Hard boil eggs and peel. Stuff cooked chickens with hard boiled eggs and rice. Stuff the cooked lamb with stuffed chickens. Add more rice. Stuff the camel with the stuffed lamb and add rest of rice. Broil over large charcoal pit until brown. Spread any remaining rice on large tray and place camel on top of rice. Decorate with boiled eggs and nuts. Serves friendly crowd of 80-100.

ethelfleda · 27/10/2018 20:23

Slow roast some - 160degrees for an hour - with some peppers and mushrooms - whatever you fancy. Mix them in with a simple pasta sauce - when roasted you can get away with using one clove per person as the taste isn’t as strong!
Maybe plant some when they’ve started sprouting as well?
As it’s Halloween, use them to deter vampires.

Flooffloof · 27/10/2018 20:24

They keep for an age in the right conditions. I have 2 month old garlic in a cupboard that's not warm, used some last week.
It's definitely aging but still useable.
Or peel it and store it in a bottle with oil, any oil. Can still use the garlic and you get garlicky oil. Win win

Girlfrommars77 · 27/10/2018 20:26

This is all so helpful. lonerica exactly what I was looking for and yes lots of freezer ideas welcome. I could stick it in one of my dark veg bag Lakeland things but still worried it wouldn’t last.

Anyway, not to worry, off to catch a camel...

Flooffloof · 27/10/2018 20:27

Smile Grin uniquack brilliant, am so trying that tomorrow. Ordering camel from Amazon as I type.

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 27/10/2018 20:27

If you decide to make garlic oil, then do it properly or you risk botulism! Don't just chuck a few cloves into some oil and say job done. It's rate but happens.

Giggorata · 27/10/2018 20:30

Definitely roast it, it's fantastic.
You can also plant each clove and grow more under a cloche! Or in a greenhouse.

AdaColeman · 27/10/2018 20:31

As the saying goes, "First, kill your camel." Grin

But if you don't have a camel, you could try Spanish Garlic and bread soup (Sopa de Ajo) very cheap and filling.

Or roast some of the bulbs to get a garlic paste to add to mashed potatoes, potatoes gratin etc or any soup.

Garlic prawns and garlic mushrooms are fab, serve with crusty bread or rice,

Crush and add to anything a bit bland, cous-cous, pasta, polenta etc.

Uniquack · 27/10/2018 20:33

The only thing that's stopped me from trying that recipe myself is that I don't have a large enough pot to boil the camel in. Swimming pool maybe? Grin

thenightsky · 27/10/2018 20:53

You'll be fine come Halloween OP.

MyCatHasStaff · 27/10/2018 20:56

There's no garlic in that camel recipe...

Girlfrommars77 · 27/10/2018 20:58

You'll be fine come Halloween OP.

Grin will keep a few to strong round my neck.

Have just peeled loads to chuck in freezer and add to carrots and sweet potato to boil for mash...

Next stop...a bag of chopped/grated for freezer. My hands have a lovely garlic stink

Peel them and put them in a food processor to crush. Add olive oil and put them in ice cube trays. Then pop them into a freezer bag and use them when cooking.

Make your own garlic butter. Same as above! Absolutely delicious. You could even add favourite herbs to the garlic butter
